[SIZE="4"][/SIZE Many of us have financial concerns regarding loss of our property or homes. Some have gotten sink hole insurance coverage and some not. There are a group of us Villagers and Homeowners that are looking to establish a self insurance program run by and for the benefit of villagers. At this point we have had some people express interest and are contemplating our next step. The one item that seems critical is having enough people to make the program financial sound and at a reasonable cost.
If you are interested in looking into what we are doing you may contact me at JDCH875@GMAIL.COM OR 352-693-5955. If you choose to contact us, email is preferable and please send your email and phone number. If we develop some statistics that seem reasonable to protect us, keep us financially sound and help out each other when needed, we'll then move towards larger community meetings with our findings. ![]() Regards, Carl |

Your first step should be a call to the Department of Insurance. To find out what is involved and the cost to set up self insurance

The our state representatives our supposed to be in Tallahassee to help people. It would seem that if they are working for us as they should they could be major resource, if setting up a insurance plan were being contemplated. The fact is if a insurance plan were set up and worked in the villages having the whole state involved would be the best thing for all. The more people equals more money and a larger pool to spread the risk. I would say what is lacking here is leadership the ball has been dropped by the state of Florida causing severe problems for some of Florida's citizens. Someone needs to step in and fill the vacuum.

Gator Fan: Have already contacted the Florida State Insur Commisioners Offce. Briefly, what we would be doing is called "a NON-INCORPORTED RECIPOCAL POLICY" and the members are referred to as "SUBSCRIBERS". The State cannot provide any information as to cost, that all depends on what we do and what we cover. We are not looking at setting up a business so no "FIRM" such as an insurance company is involved. Its neighbor to neighbor as a mutual benefit group.

The only approach that makes sense is to create of pool of funds that covers the deductibles for the members. The basic coverage is available already. The pool could make the premiums more affordable by allowing the insureds to purchase high deductible policies.
