Default Any Prius owners

We are considering trading in our gas guzzler for a Prius, the middle one. We drove one yesterday and it seemed very comfortable, but I'm wondering how it feels on your body after a 5-6 hour drive.

Any comments would be helpful.

I've owned two a 2006 and a 2010. Can't say enough good things about them. I live in upstate NY and have driven to the Villages twice in the last couple of winters. It rides and feels like a full size Camry. We just came back from a 1000 round trip to Niagara Falls and got 56 miles per gallon.

Wow, 56 mpg that sure is a great incentive. Thanks for you comment.

Carguy should chime in here soon....he has one and is quite knowledgeable about them.

I own a 2007 and LOVE it. Just turned 90 k on it. We also are from upstate NY and have driven it back and forth many times. We now live here full time.

It is amazing how much you can pack into it. I love the back up camera, the bluetooth cellphone hands free thing, the getting between 45-50mpg. On long trips I'll drive up to 10 mph over the limit, so driving 80 mph with it is no problem.

I'll buy another one in a minute.

We have a 2006 with about 111,000 miles and still get about 50 mpg.

Only repair has been the regular 12 volt battery used to start the car. Really a normal repair for any car. The big battery pack is still going strong.

While I have driven it back north once, we have a larger sedan that we prefer for LONG trips because it is a bit more comfortable - just a personal preference.

The Prius was a great commuting car and I would certainly consider buying another one but expect to get a lot more out of the one we have.

Cheers.

Bought brand new Prius in 2005, have 158,000 miles on it, still gets 47 mpg, love it, would never have anything but a Prius. I kid my husband that it is a Prius Truck because with the seat down I can haul just about anything, just took a big piece of furniture to my daughter in Atlanta and STILL got 47 mpg.

My husband, son and I all drive one. I still get 50-55 mpg on the highway, and slightly less around town. The best thing I can say about them is that I used to want a new car every 4-5 years no matter what the mileage, and I've had my Prius for 6 years now and wouldn't trade it for the world. Not a single repair since we bought mine, nor on my husband's or son's, which are both a couple of years older. Absolutely LOVE mine. My hubby and son would say the same. (P.S. I've been lurking on TOTV for several months. Planning a LSV soon, so hello to everyone!)

We have a Prius V, now has about 4200 miles, we drove straight through on our move to TV from Raleigh last week. It was about a ten hour trip and we found it very comfortable...noise levels are fairly low, you can easily talk using Bluetooth on a cell phone at 70 MPH. Mileage on the V is 41-42, less than the other models but it has great cargo space!

Thank you for the information. Come on down for your LSV. You won't be sorry.

We have a 2006 that we bought new. We have about 60,000 miles on it. Haven't had any repairs. One of the best cars we've ever owned.

We have a 2007 Prius and traveled down from Philly to The Villages in it last spring when we moved. We were in it 10+ hours for two days in a row thanks to being caught in horrible traffic conditions and we were at least comfortable with the ride if not aggravated that we couldn't get to TV sooner. Love our Prius!

I have heard great things about the Chevy Volt, give it a try before buying a Toyota. Imported from the USA!

I only buy American (or Canadian assembled ) cars,so I can't relate my personal driving experiences with a Prius. The Volt is quite expensive with pricing close to $40,000. The Prius might be roomier too. My son has a 2004 Prius with 112,000 miles. He gets around 47 mpg. We once drove from metro Detroit to Knoxville on a tank of gas. Very impressive. It has held up well with just new battery, tires, and burned out headlight. The synergetic battery is doing great. There were a few minor recalls.

I looked and decided I'd buy American with a Chevy made in Kansas City that gets 37 on the highway. I got 32 mpg in mixed driving today. Too many stop lights!
Consumer Reports this summer rated the smaller Prius as car to avoid.

I've always wondered about the recovery cost of a higher priced hybrid. It might take 6 or 7 years to recoup the cost. Of course $$ might not be the only factor in choosing a hybrid.

We have a 2010 Prius and it is our third one. We never put over about 40K miles on the previous ones. The current one has about 22K miles, but I don't anticipate trading it for quite a while. We love the way it rides and when we moved from VA, we had 2 people, 2 dogs in a cage and food and bedding for them along with enough clothes for us and everything else we could possible need for a week until the moving truck arrived. We have made several trips between FL and VA in all three Priuses (?) and find the comfort level very good. It is truly amazing how well they handle and the stability is wonderful while on the interstates. The only reason I could possible see for making a trade at this time would be to move up to the Prius V. It has the cargo space of a small SUV similar to a RAV 4, but much better gas mileage.
