Does anyone know where the proposed changes to residency legislation now stands?
Currently we are allowed 6 months in a calendar year, but with the proposed changes Canadians and UK owners would be allowed to stay up to 9 months in the US in a calendar year.
Last time I heard mention of this was about a year ago. Is it still in the works, or dead in the water?

Isn't this part of the Immigration Reform Bill? If so, it passed the US Senate by a wide margin, but hasn't been brought up for a vote yet in the US House.

There's no way of knowing what will happen when congress returns to work after the August recess. Stay tuned.

Janmcn is right - the Canadian bit is part of the large Immigration Reform Bill which was passed by the US Senate and hasn't yet been voted on in the US House. The Bill deals with many complex issues; Canadians are just a tiny part - I think the Bill has 800 pages.

You can usually get a recent status by googling "Jolt Act" or "Retiree Visa".
There are also regular "Loonies and Toonies" meetings held in the Villages monthly from November to April, when most Canadians are in residence. Usually the Canadian Snowbird Association gives an update on the Retiree Visa.

Thanks. I will check on these. We will only be in TV 4 1/2 months next year as we don't arrive in TV until late December this year. However, we would like to be back there mid November of 2014 until early May 2015. That pushes us up to 6 months and doesn't give us any leeway for our trips to Montana, Wyoming and Idaho in the summer.
