What is the proper Etiquette for passing slow golf carts? I like to cruise around 19 to 20. Over the weekend I seemed to have found a few carts with a top speed around 10 MPH.

One cart had 4 people on it and every little incline coming out of the tunnels it would slow to walking speed.

Don't tailgate as you approach the slow cart. Stay a decent distance behind, and then pass when the opportunity arises. Be careful though, because sometimes a driver will turn left without signaling...yeah,,,it happens...

Anyone sightseeing at speeds below 15 mph should have the courtesy to yield the road to normal cart traffic . Passing others is a common sense move ,the slow guys are just in the way and should pull over and let traffic p ass.

Oh, I guess I just did that...

Interesting that you rarely see Street Legal carts on the main roads anymore. My guess is that people got sick and tired of the extremely high insurance premiums.

Slow down. Start earlier and enjoy the scenery and the smells and the sounds of life. You’re gonna die anyway Whether you pass them or not!

Remind yourself you’re retired and take it easy.

If you rent a golf cart from Bonifay you will find that the top speed is 12 mph. I would imagine the other country clubs have the same setup.
Also rentals from other sources usually have a top speed set. So keep that in mind when coming up to slow carts. It may not be the drivers fault.

Rushing

If we are all retired why in the heck do you have to rush anywhere? Must be a poor planner of time or an "A" type personality who never grew up.

That's what I think when some cart goes blowing by me. Yeah sometimes we all pass a real slow cart but that isn't the case in most passing. Usually someone who has played with governor settings and just wants to speed.

The golf carts they give on the Lifestyle visits are throttled down severely. They just creep along.....

Ramming Speed

whound68 06-02-2021 07:26 AM

It depends. If you are from NY or NJ you stand on your horn and flip the slow cart off as you speed by. If you are from the midwest you just follow and take in the views as you are retired and in no hurry.

I think that same cart passed me on Morse Blvd going across the bridge by Lake Sumter Landing. I was in the left lane and he was behind me, but changed to the right lane and passed me, then turned into LSL. Funny though, didn’t have a license plate or a “street legal” sign on the back.

I'm on a Lifestyle Preview visit right now. The provided golf cart is an EZGO Freedom RXV Elite (Lithium) and a card on the steering wheel says that the cart speed has been 'reduced'. But the darn thing goes 22mph!

On neighborhood streets with no Cart Lane and a posted speed limit, passing a golf cart safely could result in a major fine and points . If the speed limit is exceeded by your cart or auto, you are breaking the law. I was stopped by a Marion County Sheriff and given a warning.
