Interesting, so you’ve never passed someone while driving 60 in a 55 zone? If you have, are you a “special individual”?!?

Or............Not worry about people going 1 or 2 mph over the 20 limit. I'd much rather the police do something more important.

And there is another reason to pass someone going 20, and that is that while they may be just hitting 20 on a straightaway, they might be slowing to 8 on every curve, every tunnel, every time another vehicle is coming in the opposite lane. Don't tell me that doesn't happen, because it most certainly does. If I'm going 5 or 6 miles, I definitely do not want to be behind that bozo.

Basically, YOU don't get to dictate what anyone else does

I could be wrong but I think you are not supposed to cross a solid white line so technically you are not supposed to pass.

In which case you could never pass a cyclist going 3 mph or a pedestrian walking in the cart lane, nor could you ever make a left turn either. The best explanation I have seen (which might be right or wrong), is that it is a "one way" solid white line. Cars should not cross it (and that's why the line is broken at an intersection that is on your right side so they can turn right), but carts can cross it to make a left turn or pass. Have not found anything that officially addresses this in the Florida statutes

Cars are registered motor vehicles. 20mph + golf carts are not, unless they are designated "street legal". And then, they are limited to 25mph.

That is correct. And your point is......

I will pass your entitled ox cart any time I need to.

Both of our carts are set to max out at the legal speed limit. Based on that I will make two general observations. When we were at our Villages home between Christmas and April 1st, people were always flying up behind me and usually passed despite the fact I was driving the legal limit. Since I got back down here last week, I have not been passed a single time. In fact, I seem to frequently get stuck behind people driving well below the legal limit. I guess it can be generalized that snowbirds like to fly in their carts, while many frogs are content to slowly hop down the multi-modal paths.

Don’t recall white solid lines on the multi modal paths.

you've chosen not to answer the question, which was "do you ever knowingly drive faster than the posted speed limit?"

the laws you choose to break or bend are laws that are OK to break or bend by a tiny little bit, however, if it's a law you've decided not to break or bend, then it is a sacred law, and that little bit of leeway you allow yourself in one circumstance, shouldn't be allowed to another person in a different circumstance. And you describe others as "entitled".

Cars are designed to safely exceed the speed limit. Hit a curb going 25mph in a car won't kill you. Hit a curb going 25mph in a golf cart and see what happens. There is a reason why golf carts are limited to 20mph. Even 20mph is probably too fast for safe sensible driving.

OrangeBlossomBaby 06-04-2021 08:08 PM

I think there's a big difference between someone passing when the guy ahead of him is going only 12mph in a golf cart, and someone passing in the same area when the guy ahead of him is going 20. The actual speed limit for non-street-legal golf carts is 19.8mph. If you're on a golf cart path or MMP, no one should be passing you in a golf cart, if you are going 19.8mph or faster. If they're passing you, then THEY are breaking the law.

And that's okay - if they want to break the law, then it's on them if they get caught. It's not your headache. If they cause an accident and you're there to witness it, you can tell your observation to the police if they ask for your statement.

The only time I think I'd make a fuss, is if they're passing me on a precarious section of road. Like that rickety bridge off Morse Blvd by 466. Or any of the golf cart bridges. Or around any bend where you can't see what's coming toward you. On a straight-away though? Screw it. Let them pass. It's one less idiot you have to deal with behind you.

I’m from Jersey. I don’t recall passing anyone in our Cart. Trust me, the Cart is capable of easily doing so but I’m usually the new improved version of the NJ version. I don’t wanna tee anyone off and I’m hardly ever in a hurry. Slow is the way, steady is the course.
