After ascertaining that the smoker was not a retired police captain, I would have confronted him.

How can you tell by appearance that the person was Asian?

I am a firm believer of the statement....see something, say something.
I would not recommend any individual confronting another....that is the manager's job. People who frequently violate the rules anticipate the fear of involvement in this country and get away with way too much. See something say something has proven to save lives. |

Actually I thought she was an African-American woman when I first noticed the person sitting in front of me. It was not until he got up that he looked Asian. Much of the time I saw this person was in the dark of a movie theater. I only ascertained that he was Asian-American or Asian after I saw him waiting for the men's toilet stall.
I cannot really say what makes a person appear Asian or Asian-American. Does this woman appear Asian-American? http://verilymag.com/cosmetic-surger...n-perspective/ I do hope that the Old Mill Playhouse management has seen this thread. The ticket takers probably would remember the very few people who went to the 1:10 P.M. showing of "The Amazing Spider-Man II" in 3-D on May 7, 2014 as this was an Asian-American or Asian man carrying a large bag or purse of some kind. That's kind of memorable in the carrying of a large bag like that by a man. |

My reason for posting this thread was mainly to make people aware that there is, at least, one person who smokes cigarettes in Villages' theaters. I am hoping that the Old Mill Playhouse people see this thread. |

If it was bothering you, you should have reported it to the manager and let him investigate it.

Could someone from the PC Police please share what the appropriate penance is for using the term " Oriental " instead of Asian ?
Also what is the penalty for NOT correcting some innocent soul who happens to use a term [ Oriental ] which has long been accepted ? And my long time Asian friends have shared with me is not objectionable to them ? Also how does one determine that someone is " African American " ? We have many citizens of Canada living here in the Villages . How do you know that a person isn`t " African Canadian " ? Except the people I know from Canada who we would call " African American " have told me that they find " African-Canadian " to be objectionable . This past winter when I asked a good friend from Montreal what the PC term would be for someone such as himself who was a person of color , he told me real quick " my family considers us to be " French-Canadian ". We don`t care for the African label ". So ............ I guess what is PC depends on where on the globe one might be located . Or who is wearing the PC hat today . PC Police p-lease chime in !! |

Unbelievable. Somebody is presenting a fire hazard in a movie theater, and is breaking state no-smoking laws, and is acting weird in the bathroom with his big purse...... and people here are worried about political correctness of saying "oriental" or "Asian"??????
How about "lawbreaker"? |

I do not have that much of a problem with smokers unless they start a fire. There is also the concern of second hand smoke but this person was far enough away that I could not smell anything. There is a concern though if this is this person's habitual routine when he goes to a movie at the Old Mill Playhouse. I am hoping again that someone will alert the Old Mill Playhouse management to this thread. They would probably also have to catch him in the act of smoking as I doubt if they could search his belongings on the word of some other theater goer. I suppose I could have taken a picture of the smoke coming out of his area with my cell phone but I am quite new to cell phone use. It could have been an e-cigarette too as I am not familiar with anyone who smokes these things. I am familiar with people who smoke or have smoked over the years regular cigarettes and cigars. I did not actually smell any tobacco nor any marijuana. The next person who reads TOTV and sees this behavior and knows how to use a cell phone I hope will take a picture of this man's smoking and contact the management of whatever Villages' theater he is in. |

1] Determining if a Topic is worthy of being posted " Relevancy " and ........ 2] Political Correctness : [ Their " Expert Last Word " on what is not PC ] This is why I pointed out that what is Politically Correct is not always so clear and there- fore not necessarily Politically Incorrect --- that is unless one hails from the local distribution geography of The Washington Post . In which case they are automatically PC in all matters . And the " final word " on what is PC . Just don`t tell it to my good friend from Montreal who happens to be Black but carries a French surname that he is " African-Canadian ". ![]() |

The movie theaters I frequented when I lived in Palm Harbor had video surveillance on the audiences which I am pretty sure was taped and kept for a certain amount of time. You could see the recording cameras in various corners facing the audiences. I wonder if the Villages' theaters have these surveillance cameras on the audiences? If they do, then they probably know about this man and whether or not he makes a habit of smoking at the Villages' theaters. Groups of teens would often frequent these Palm Harbor and Oldsmar movie theaters on Friday and Saturday nights so it is understandable that they would tape audiences or want to make them think they were being videotaped. Big brother does not always have to carry a big stick. |
