Look for evidence of his smoking like cell phone and/or video surveillance-- if he was actually smoking tobacco which is illegal-- and then simply ask him to leave the theater and warn him that he cannot smoke at Villages' theaters. Then, if he is caught doing so, contact the police.

You observed someone smoking in the theater but did not report him, yet you want someone else to report him if they see him smoking. Why not just report him yourself and not have to rely on someone else reporting him? |

One-- I am not sure he was smoking tobacco. He might have had an e-cigarette. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireS...ettes-23641802 http://youtu.be/U81x8t2iMhw Two-- He was the only person sitting near me so he would know I turned him in to the management. I do not like creating personal grudge matches unless there is nothing else to do. Three-- I do not have a problem with smokers. Live and let live unless the second hand smoke starts getting into my lungs. Of course, I would have had a huge problem if he started a fire as I was the only person sitting behind him and would have needed to get past the fire. There's no exit at the top the auditorium. At least not in Auditorium 5 which is where they play 3-D movies at the Old Mill Playhouse. I wanted to alert the Old Mill Playhouse management and audience members on TOTV about this person as it would seem if he likes movies and has a smoking addiction he has done this before and will probably do it again unless he reads TOTV and knows people are looking for his smoking. Four-- if they have video surveillance in the Old Mill Playhouse then alerting them about this would I hope make them look at the recordings so they would have evidence of this person's smoking. They could then refuse him entry into the movie theater if he smoked tobacco. Five-- I went there to see The Amazing Spider Man II and not to get embroiled in some kind of drama. Reporting this man would have ruined the movie for everyone else in the auditorium especially because of recent events in movie theaters about complaints about the actions of various audience members. I did have a problem with just seeing cigarette smoke in some 3-D scenes where it did not belong. I was very curious about whether or not this happens at other Villages' movie showings. Don't you think that if this person was smoking you would have smelled something? I'm a former smoker who hates the odor of tobacco smoke. I can detect that stink instantly and from a great distance. I don't think I'm unique in this sensitivity.

I do not have much real life experience with e-cigarettes however as everyone I know who smokes uses tobacco cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 05-10-2014 at 06:41 AM. |

Why is it that we can't stay on task? The issue was someone smoking in a theater? It doesn't matter if it was a cigarette, marijuana or an e-cigarette.
The OP only had to go to management explain that he believed but was not 100% sure that a person near him was smoking and then let management do their job. Management could then determine the facts. Asian is the PC term |

I am sure if I had complained the smoker probably would have learned my real name especially if this involved smoking tobacco and some kind of misdemeanor arrest or ticket of some kind. I have been a victim advocate of sorts since 1991 and did have some impact (24 nominations to Marquis Who's Who publications between 1992 and 2002) so I pick my battles wisely and this one seem quite trivial in the broader context. Now if this had been a Max Cady http://youtu.be/M6HxD6sZ-I0 like situation the entire population of that theater showing The Amazing Spider-Man II would have complained to the management. |

I would have reported it to the manger. Its a fire hazard. Not sure of the laws but at least someone would know of the problem. They could then decide whether to take action then or put up no smoking signs. Even now I would let the management know. I'm an ex-smoker and way back when I was younger I don't believe where I lived at the time you were allowed to smoke in a theater because of the possibility of a large group of people and the fire hazard.

Even if they are E-cigs...probably not the place for them.

It does distract from the viewing experience from the smoke coming up between you and the screen if this were an E-cig or maybe about six of them or so. He lit up about every 20 minutes.
