That is the design of the screening, it will not tear if kitty climbs it. I have no idea where the installer got it, but I would check with White Aluminum in Leesburg (441) to see if they have it. It is thicker than the regular screen, so it appears a little darker.

I would not let kitty roam free in the back yard. Not only hawks etc. But the fencing doesn’t always go all the way down to the ground...kitty could escape. Another thing is that there are many plants down here that are toxic to pets - even if the cat walked near the plant, the pollen could cause illness (or worse). My kitty is occasionally allowed onto the screened area, but ONLY when I am right there with him.

After 5 years, never had mice or rats, and have only seen one little snake. Have walled Villa, not by water, so that might make a difference.

It is true; predators of various types have broken through screened lanais and snatched cats and even small dogs. I would never leave a pet unsupervised on a lanai, never mind out in the yard, walled or otherwise.
Also, keep a tight hold on your pet's leash anywhere outdoors because you just never know.

Large totally black snakes won't hurt you and eat bugs including palmette bugs, leave them alone and they will go away, lots here on the golf courses. I see them in our yard all the time, they tend to slither away if you make so.e noise.

I live in a walled bungalow and found a cute baby ringneck snake in the middle of my house a few months ago. I relocated it over behind Lake Miona rec center.

I snapped a photo of it but can't figure out how to post it here.

My cat is an indoor/outdoor cat now. Hes survived 4 plus years. Obviously, I put a great deal of thought into keeping my cat safe. Very snarky remark.

It's a bad idea! We don't have a cat, but we were sitting in our CYV lanai earlier this week, and here comes a beautiful, well-fed white cat prancing along the wall. Who knows where it came from, but they are jumpers and escape artists. I agree with whoever said they will find a way out.


We had a cat who would jump from a sitting position on the floor to eight feet at the ceiling to catch a fly. He would have looked at our wall and thought, "Pfft... no problem."



Also, I've yet to see a mouse in The Villages, and we bought in 2011.

We moved here from NJ and our dogs had 1/2 acre fenced play area. We did not have the birds of prey that are in TV. I had to change my way of thinking. The dogs are allowed in the bird cage if one of us is in the cage. Our lanai is enclosed so they have free run of the lanai. It is definitely different for the dogs but no more snow!
