In 2008, they interviewed the woman who was first to vote 30 days in advance in Chicago. What if 2 weeks prior to Election Day it came out the candidate of her choice was found to have 500 gigabytes of child pornography on his computer??? Too late to take her vote back. And a lot of times there is an "October surprise".
You are right of course. Not yet having been accosted by such individuals, I was envisioning a time much closer to election day. My bad.

Once upon a time I heard a woman in line to vote on election day say "I'm going to get... some of that O... $$!"

Lots of reasons to vote in person. Who knows what motivators will exist on election day vs voting early or as mail in - pretty sure u s elections are REALLY messed up.

I just tell that I was voting for their candidate but but because of their loud annoying presence I’ve changed my mind.

But I’m a button pusher and get a lot of pleasure from ****ing off people who I find irritating.

So ToTV is a guilty pleasure for you following that logic!

I remember that woman distinctly in October 2008. The same year one precinct had a vote count of 19,350 for candidate A and 0 for candidate B. Admittedly, this was a precinct in NW Philadelphia where the results were expected to be lopsided, but ZERO?????? I would think that at least one person would be too drunk, too stupid or too high to pick their choice correctly

In no way do I want to curtail anyone's right to support a candidate or cause regardless of party, or their right to placing signs for any candidate or cause on their lawn/private property. I just wish they would do their campaigning on public property, like on the sidewalks of any of the squares and shopping plazas, but not at the pool and postal station areas which, I believe are private, not U.S. post office property. And on election days, I wish all these people in chairs and marching around with their signs would have to stay ACROSS the street from the Laurel Manor, and not force people to walk through their very narrow into the voting room. It really makes me uncomfortable how they do that here, but been here a long time and doubt it will ever change. Not life changing, I just get the mail after dark during election seasons and vote by mail, so annoying, not the biggest problem I've ever faced in life...LOL !
There’s laws regulating how close to polling places they can gather

My question is, do they REALLY think they will change someone's mind with a sign or banner?

First and most important it is still my right as an American citizen to cast my vote. Nothing will get in my way. Hold your head high walk past those trying to influence you. Who you vote for is your business. I do miss the curtain when we pulled the lever.
Next, I look at the political pushers at the postal station ,pool, Publix or even knocking at the door the same as I look at the sales person trying to solicit to do my roof. Smile keep walking.Your choice to interact. Eventually they go away. Unlike the clueless who let their dogs run unleashed in the street or postal station as the human strolls along.
Early voting may be difficult this year we still don't have confirmed candidates for one office!? Life is short. Just smile and do what gives you joy.
