Default Why was thread closed?

I was planning to post a comment on a thread but I just found out it was closed.
I wonder why it was closed?
Title of thread is "So sad is shameful!"

Cause that's just the way TOTV works. As soon as a thread gets interesting......it's closed.

Because someone (we all know who) felt uncomfortable about the subject, and the truth hurts. Based on the over postings, I suspect, "someone" is a moderator. Of course this will be denied. Maybe my post will even be deleted. Maybe this thread will be closed abruptly.

Guess I missed something. I thought it was very civil. Maybe the moderator was seeing more than I.

To be honest, this was the first thread I have ever
started on TOTV, and I think I had a bit of fear in
starting one after reading through many
threads on the forum!

I just read that thread and noticed it was closed also.

I was actually heartened to read that there are more than just a couple of us that have noticed and been a target of the 'bully clique' ....and were willing to speak out about it.

In my short time here, it is quite apparent that some people think that their unnaturally high post count...somehow makes them special.

And not trying to criticize the mods/admins, but it is obvious that these same high post people are given a LOT more leeway to personally attack those they don't like.

Having been a mod on another site myself, I am very familiar with how hard it is to do a basically thankless job...without letting your own personal feelings sometimes affect how you treat threads/complaints.

All in all, I think the mods do a great job here but I would just ask them to every so often start looking at who are doing the most reporting of posts...and realize their real agenda for doing so.

As a mod, I once told a poster that seemed to report every post he just didn't like that if he kept it up...HE would get a 24 hour ban.

After about 4 or 5 of those...his whining stopped.

There's no doubt there are some real cyber-bullies here in a clique, that quickly gang up on a target and I would just ask that management recognize this....and do a little more to control the bullies so that others aren't scared off in participating in threads.

I was in the process of posting a response when the thread was closed. I would guess that it was closed because the exchanges were getting personal and were approaching becoming abusive.

I was preparing a response to the poster (who I won't name) who implied that Graciegirl was a shill. It was unclear if he meant a shill for the developer of TV or for the owners of TOTV.

Since I don't call the poster any names, and speak positively of Gracie, perhaps my response will be acceptable here.

===============

Perhaps you are new here, or you simply don't know Gracie. She is no one's shill. What she is could be described as is an unabashed enthusiast for the positive aspects of The Villages. She has taken this attitude for years.

She is an upbeat person who enjoys the multitude of amenities of a well planned and well equipped retirement community.

And, like me, she does not resent the fact that the Morse family has made uncountable buckets of profit through their highly competent planning and foresight regarding legitimately making a profit in our capitalistic society. Many posters have complained about the profits they make. As I have said before, I wish I had thought of it. But even if I had, I wouldn't have done it because my interests lay elsewhere. More power to them for sticking to it.

I question the validity of many of the criticisms of the operation of The Villages seen on TOTV, and attribute them to either grumpiness or an unreasonable attitude, and when I see people ask for more details when the allegations do not conform to my experiences, I think the request for more details is reasonable.

I spend most of my time outside of "The Bubble" and when I am inside The Villages I realize what an outstanding retirement community it is, and enjoy it thoroughly. Today I had a fine lunch at the Evans Prairie Country Club, at reasonable prices for good food and in an excellent atmosphere.

No shill is needed for a reasonable person to realize what a great place The Villages is. Gracie is such a person, not a shill. And, she need not prove anything to you.

I thought it was very civil to, but it struck me that
maybe it was closed because some one pulled strings?

I doubt if there is even 5% of the people posting on TOTV, who don't basically love it in TV...which is why we live here in the first place.

A lot of us however, know that it is not perfect and at times post what bugs us about certain things.

To be jumped immediately for posting anything that might be construed as even mild criticism, or implying that we are somehow 'jealous' of the developer, or trolls, or are not even Villagers...is EXACTLY the reason so many are finally speaking up against the bullies and their tight little clique.

If nothing else, maybe this truth will be a beginning of the bully clique backing off and letting people who have issues that bug them...post without being immediately mugged and accused of things they aren't.

And we should also keep in mind, that we ALL have the right to be 'bugged'...not just those who are bugged by criticism of the developer.

I would suggest everyone read this thread that was recently closed by the moderator. Although it is closed now for new posts it is still, at this time, available for reading. I always expected this thread to be removed. When the frequent posters get put back on their heels they cry foul and demand that the moderators close the thread. I hope the moderators begin to defend some of our newer posters. Listen to what they are saying. They are fearful of posting on TOTV for fear of being attacked by some of these frequent posters. Just ask people, privately, how they would feel about making their first post. You may be surprised by their responses.

This thread is being closed. Here is a link to a recent {7/12/16) thread by Admin regarding the rules of participation on TOTV. I would direct your attention to the section dealing with concerns or disagreements with staff or policies.
