Default Sob! They're Backkkkkkkkkkkkk

Yup. Saw my first lovebugs yesterday and a couple more today. They really are disgusting little critters.

So, is it true that UoF developed these useless things to eat mosquitoes and now we have to suffer through them twice a year? What a thought, eh?

Okay, done with my whining. Time to get back to real life (and work).

Have seen a few as well... Not true about UF though. There was an article in the Sun a couple of years back disputing that myth.

Default I found a more current article. They are actual flies migrated from Central America.

I guess I feel better knowing they were not created by man's stupidity but I still loathe the things. They really have to be most useless things ever created (and, no, I don't want to get into a debate about creationism, evolution, etc.).

So, I am now sitting outside, polluting the atmosphere and waving my flyswatter, daring the things to get near me. Truly one of the few things in life I gleefully kill.

Besides that - if UF had developed them they would have been orange and blue instead of orange and black.

Go Gators!!

Orange and blue would be nice. Once we were traveling the ICW in Louisiana in our sailboat in September and there were thousands of them and we couldn't swat them because of the mess. My husband finally got out the shop vac and and sucked them up from the underside of the bimini. Very effective.

However, since they don't bite I'd take them over the big green flies in Georgia in May. They do bite. We killed over a thousand of them one morning. It was fun to keep count.

I saw my first 2 love bugs today. They were on my front door. They died. 60,000,000 to go.

They (the lovebugs, not snowbirds) are not too bad in Hadley right now. Think the blind mosquitos are eating THEM instead of vice-versa??? I can't stand those mosquitos for another minute, I have never bought so much insect spray in my life. Unfortunately, the rumor that the blind mosquitos DON'T bite, is false.

Default Use SSS

Found out that those critters won't land on you when you use Skin So Soft. We had gardens in Illinois, Maine and Florida. Always used SSS before we went out to do any gardening or yard work. Mosquitos have never bothered us here and no black flies (thank god). But lotsa things that like to buzz around your eyes and ears. They can buzz, but they never land.
Been using SSS for around 20 years now.

Is kinda funny to thiink the arrival of lovebugs coincides with snowbirds -- September and March. Even so, I love our snowbirds. They may mean lines and traffic but they also mean businesses can stick around, there's more clubs and more wonderful people to meet. So, repeat after me --

SNOWBIRDS ARE AWESOME. LOVEBUGS SUCK!
