We got a lot of that from people as well. They could not believe we were moving to Florida. I could not believe we were moving to Florida. I can not believe we are now living here. It all happened so fast. We came to visit just weeks after we heard of the place and bought the second day we were here. THAT shocked all our friends since I am usually the kind of person who thinks about everything for a long time, weighs the pros and cons, then thinks some more. I have made two impulsive decisions in my life:
1) marrying my husband after knowing him only a couple of months and 2) buying here in TV. If the second one turns out as well as the first, I will be blessed. We told our friends they should all come and visit us and to bring their checkbooks. They laugh. I tell them wait until you see this place! We have heard negative things from friends all over the country...I am waiting until they ask if they can come visit in the middle of the winter. And then we will have the last laugh. You will love it here, well after you unpack and decompress anyway. Best of luck and to your future!

I had the same negative reaction with so many of my friends.
Last month when I flew down to meet with my sales rep and the designer to start the build process, I brought one of my very dear friends who was so very negative. She did imbibe in that kool delicious drink. She is excited to return to TV in 2 weeks when I bring yet another friend to perhaps try that kool drink. You have to experience to believe! |

Not only were our friends making faces about our move, our kids were angry and had all the same reactions. OH did I fail to mention my wife said the same things to me !!!!!!!!! until we made a lifestyle visit --she fell in love --not with me --but with TV----lol We moved here last Oct. Our daughter who is 30 came for a visit --and hase been back 3 times with her friends -- Yes you will ride in golf carts --dance in the streets (all year long) without a shovel !! What we have found is that we had to stop trying to sell our move to others. All we could do was invite them to visit --------- When and If they come they will see what you could not explain ... Congrats on your sale --get here before you get snowed in up there !! ![]()

I wish I were in your shoes!! We are so hoping our home in Illinois sells soon! I do get the same reaction from friends, but that's okay. They like what they like and I like what I like! For some, they don't want us to go. For others, they just don't understand. There are only so many TV spots available, and I have a strong feeling that when we are all built out, there will be some people wanting to come and not finding room, so if it is not for everyone, that's okay!
I haven't posted much because I am trying to go through drawers and closets to get ready to move. Hope to join you all soon! |

![]() Posted by gracie, (you are a hoot) -It is like trying to describe microwave energy to a toddler. ![]() Although I'm still a wannbee, I've heard things like: 1. It's so hot in the summer, why would you want to move there? My answer was, what is the difference if you have to stay in air-conditioning or stay inside in the winter so you don't freeze your butt off. 2. Who do you know down there? 3. Will you be back for visits? By now, my friends have been hearing I am going for so long, they are sick of hearing I plan to move to TV so I don't say anything anymore. There is no explaining how beautiful and wonderful it is. When they come for a visit, they'll see why you you moved. Who knows? They may join you. Best wishes. |

It's because the saying is so true, "Misery loves company."
And because they are cowards, too afraid to try something different....like seeing sunlight and blue skies for more than 3 days from October thru May. Who wants to be with such stiffs anyway???? |

DING, DING, DING, DING!!!! This is my favorite response to those that say it is too hot. Besides, I love walking out in the morning and evenings and not freezing my ever loving fanny off. Michigan is gray, cold and windy in the winter and winter lasts a long long time. I am so over it.

I'm glad you enjoyed the response. I share your pain being in CT. A wise person once said that some people will stay in situations even if they are bad because they feel comfortable with them instead of striking out in a new direction. TV or bust!!!!!!! |

I can understand you guys heading down this way to get away from all that snow but honestly we didn't have much snow in eastern NC! Just a boring little town that has never progressed and never will! When our friends gave us the "you shouldn't move" routine, we answered "why not"!
We've been here full time since May 1. In June a very dear friend called me crying and said her husband had assured her we would "get tired of it" and come back home! I told my husband and he answered, "get tired of WHAT"? Enough said! |

All my adult life, I couldn't understand why anybody would ever want to live in Florida- all I had ever heard about it was how hot and muggy and buggy it was. And then I flew in to Tampa for a cruise, and simply fell in love with that area. We came back several times, visiting different areas of Florida. We finally stumbled on to The Villages after hearing a commercial on Fox News. Man oh man... we spent 2 years trying to sell our home near Colville, WA (70 miles north of Spokane). Tired of the frozen ground and snow on the ground from November or December to March or April. Tired of months on end with the temps never rising above 32 degrees, and often below zero.
Tired of people asking where we were moving to- their response was always "it's hot there", "it's muggy there", "it's buggy there". And occasionally... "won't you feel strange being around nothing but old people?" Hahahaha... I have lived in the desert near Palm Springs and also near Needles. Believe me, I know HEAT. (Even though it's a DRY heat, it's still HOT down there!) I know about bugs, too. And the old people here in The Villages? Oh, you mean those ladies who kicked my husbands butt in Pickle Ball? Or the ladies who kicked my butt in the karate class? Crazy... there's just no sense in even trying to explain. People have to see it to believe it. And I'm sure it's not for everybody- but we love it here and feel blessed to finally have our own home here in The Villages. We closed escrow yesterday and couldn't be happier. |

During my career, I moved several times to different parts of the country where I didn't know a soul. Each time as I prepared to move, I found people either thought it was very cool to have a new adventure or they couldn't imagine why I would ever want to leave. Sadly the folks that couldn't imagine living in an unfamiliar area, often had to justify their fear of the unknown by trashing the new area. I've learned that other's opinions about a place is of little concern to me. Also what you like about an area may be a huge negative to others and vice versa. PS.... just for grin and giggles, remember to call those naysayers when a blizzard is raging up north and let them know the temps in TV.
