Came across old family 8mm movies & slides etc.

I just had approximately 2000 family photos scanned to a dvd from a company called scan my photos dot com. They really seemed to know their stuff and I believe I got the best price after doing a lot of research.

They also do slides -- check their various deals and look at their frequent promos. They have pricing for small quantities. Or you can purchase a "box" for under $200 that will fit about 540 slides. There are different deals so read carefully. Also check groupon since they sometimes offer deals with this company.

I am about to use a company callled southtree dot com in order to convert old vhs tapes to dvd. I believe they do 8mm as well.

I've heard a guy advertising on GOLDFM 99.5/99.7 for converting VHS, 8mm, 16mm, slides to digital. I'm away for the holidays so haven't heard the ad for the past week. He provides a phone # in the commercial.

I don't know about the 8mm costs but for vhs to dvd, Costco's price is $19.95 each. I'm getting it for $6.95 each. Huge difference in price. And since I am sending 35 tapes it amounts to a significant savings.

An online company based in Chattanooga. The website is Southtree dot com. Normally the price is $15.95 each but the website is running a 46% sale using code TAKE6. (See the website - it says limited time but doesn't give a date) I placed the order today. Next I need to pack up the tapes and mail them out. Should take 6-8 weeks. So far I've had good luck with these type of services. (PS - I had a question so I called them and did speak with a Human!)

My incentive is to continue with my overall "downsizing" -- books, photos, vhs tapes and anything else I can think of to reduce the volume of my "stuff". Now if only I can learn to live with just 3-5 pairs of shoes LOL. Not there yet but working on it.

I forgot to mention that with all these services the source tape (VHS) is considered 2 hours. If you have 4 hours on the VHS they will put your input on 2 dvd's and charge accordingly, if your tape is 6 hours, they will put it on 3 DVDs and charge for 3. But that seems to be standard in the industry from what I can tell. You can request that it be consolidated onto only 1 DVD but you will be charged per 2 hour increment.
