Default Speed limit in the Villages

I never did understand the 20mph speed limit sign coming into the Villages from Wildwood on rt 466A, don't see anyone doing 20mph

What’s not to understand? Observing and understanding aren’t the same as complying.

Seeing this is 466A and Powell Rd. I know there is a 45 MPH speed limit sign somewhere relatively close to the posted sign.

I think this post is meant to be a funny.

The answer to your question is "unless otherwise posted" on the sign. 466A has a posted speed limit of 45 along most of it's length, dropping to as low as 30 in some spots.

The purpose of the sign is to inform everyone the speed limit in the villages is 20 MPH (UNLESS POSTED OTHERWISE), this avoids speed limit signs on every street in every neighborhood.

I agree with the OP. When I am driving around The Villages, it often doesn't seem to be very clear what the speed limit is on any particular road.

Well in that case, as the sign says, the speed limit is 20 mph. I don’t think it is that difficult to understand, is it?

I'm not sure. I think it means that the default speed limit in The Villages is 20 mph, unless there is another posted limit. But, I don't think that Rt 466A is actually in The Villages. I could be wrong, but I don't think the intention is for people to be driving at or below 20 mph on any section of Rt 466A. But, I can understand that the OP would think the speed limit on Rt 466A is 20 mph at that point. So, if the sign is actually located on Rt 466A, it should probably be moved to a roadway that is actually in The Villages

That sign is located adjacent to Pinellas Plaza which is in The Villages and is also Wildwood. The Southside of 466A is most definitely TV East of Powell Road. You can also see the 45 MPH speed limit sign behind the other one.

Thanks. But, it's a good thing that Barney Fife is dead. I can see him stopping someone and giving them a ticket for going 25 miles over the speed limit between those signs.

The sign isn't an "instruction." It is a "for your information."

It's not ordering you to slow down on THAT road, immediately, until you see another sign saying otherwise.

What it's telling you, is that "by the way - IF you are driving IN the Villages, THEN the speed limit will be 20mph - unless you pass a sign that specifies otherwise."

In my area the speed limit is 25, except near the rec center, where the sign specifies it's 15. Most people abide by the 25MPH in our area. But most people don't slow down at the 15MPH sign, they just keep blowing past the postal station, fire dept, and rec center at 25.
