Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, here's 43 older threads about bicyclist in TV not sharing the roads, the cart paths, not stopping, and every other complaint you can find. Some things are better left unsaid.

I don't worry about speeder's, it's not my job, my job is to stay out of there way and not block traffic. I've tried driving down BV and ECR going the speed limit. Course I was in the right lane and 98% passed me. I was even blocking traffic in the right lane. I stay with the majority traffic flow which usually 38 to 42. You get the occasionally slow poke going 30 and the occasional habitual speeder going 50 plus and I say where cop when you need one! But, then I think he won't catch mr speedy but probably nail me!

She came back out....and he wrote the ticket.

That would be my exact luck as well.

Robin, robin, robin was that really called for? I was run off road this morning in a roundabout by a pickup and trailer. I was wearing spandex but following the law to the letter.

They are using laser. One blip and get a ticket. Radar and laser detectors will not save you!

With golf carts, it's the same thing. They will generally not bother people for 25mph and below. The reasons are twofold. Number one is the same as with cars. Number two is that legal carts can get going over 20mph when going downhill.

We need to remember that the 20mph is not a speed limit for carts in the same way it is for cars. The 20mph rule is to determine whether or not a golf cart needs to be registered and insured. If you are pulled over in your golf cart and it is found that it is capable of going over 20mph on a flat surface you may be charge with driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle on a public way. The speed limit can be 30 mph and you can be going 27 and still be cited if your cart is capable of going over 20. In that case you would not be cited for speeding.

As far as I know, there is not a separate speed limit for golf carts. There is a limit on how fast a golf cart is capable of going. If it can go over 20mph, it is then considered to be a Low Speed Vehicle and under the law needs to be registered and insured.
doc: In 1978 I was entering the New York State Thruway just exiting the ramp onto the road when a state troop stopped me and gave me a ticket for going 60 in a 55mph. I took it to an attorney to have it thrown out by the justice of the peace and the result was you exceeded the limit. so never say never.

I think some of the posted limits on some of the roads here too conservative. Let's hope that the LOE contingent here hasn't made using ticket issuance a priority for income flow as it has in other areas of the country. Its dishonest but its always covered by that "safety issue" its why the "speed too fast for conditions exist" its a catchall
and I have seen it used when conditions were ideal.
If you watch closely you will see that speed is not the main culprit for accidents here...

Cool Another Feeling

I had been very good friends with a number of Police in NY and in "most" cases they went by, "eight you skate
and nine your mine". They did not ticket if 8 or under but if 9 or greater you had no chance of getting out of a ticket.

We have speed and red light cameras up north. Everyone hates them, but they do slow down the traffic.

If you look up, you'll see cameras at all the major intersections on 466 and 466A. I have mixed emotions about them. Are they accurate? Do they catch the offender or tag the car that came just before or just after? What is their threshold for citing a driver? If drivers know they are there, it should fulfill its purpose of slowing traffic. But it just seems a little too much Big Brother/1984 for my taste.

At our age time is a finite commodity--you should not have to have it wasted by people doing ten mph under the limit
