How can I modify my outdoor hose connection so it doesn't spray when I turn off the water

The spray is from the vacuum breaker that prevents water from backflowing into your house. It is required by the code. To reduce the spray, try leaving the hose nozzle in the open position when you turn off the water.
There are other threads that will tell you how to remove the vacuum breaker. Do a search. |

I'm not sure, but I wanted to just say how refreshing it is to see someone actually spell spigot correctly, instead of the over used "Spicket." Please tell me you also do not pronounce the silent "T" in "Often."

OP, you can fashion a plastic shield to go over the hose connection, trim a small soda bottle to fit over the hose connection. As for removing the back flow preventer, this is technically against the law (building codes), no idea of the penalties.
I agree with the comment of holding the hose on while turning the water off, this is very effective at reducing the spray.

Yes you can.
The anti syphon valve makes the spray, you can remove it, however it has an anti- tamper set screw on the threads designed to discourage this. It is also a code requirement to have this anti syphon valve. There is a better chance of you winning a free golf cart than anyone noticing the anti syphon absence much less fining you. You remove it by either replacing the entire valve assembly or drilling out the set screw. To do that drill it out using left hand drill bits, those are available at harbor freight. |

If you look into the spigot, you will see a brass bar across the opening of the valve. Simply reach in with a pair of needle nose pliers and grip the bar and pull and twist to remove it. Problem solved, and by looking at the spigot, nobody can tell it's been tampered with.

I bought a 2 dollar shut off adapter from lowes. put it on the faucet and connected the hose to it. Just turn it to the off position before turning off the faucet. Solved the problem immediately

You are absolutely correct, I completely forgot I did the same thing on the rear faucet.

Live dangerously and just leave it off.
