New Cases Nov 24: Lake County-57, Marion County-136, Sumter County-33

Only a small portion of The Villages lies in Lake County and it includes the cities of Leesburg and Tavares. The same can be said for Marion county which include Ocala. Most of The Villages lies in Sumter County and the Federal Prison is also in Sumter County.

I would assume that the majority of these cases are in the largest cities and the prison. I would also think that only a small number of those 226 cases were in The Villages.

I have a friend whose wife tested positive. He also got test and was positive. They went back a few days later to be retested and were both negative. Were their positive results counted as new cases?

In addition to the countywide new cases on the dashboard, the daily “state report” on the FLDH COVID website, just below the dashboard, lists total cases to date in cities within each county. It doesn’t break out new cases each day like the county dashboard does, so you have to compare the prior and current day reports to figure the new day’s cases in each community.

Comparing Monday’s and Tuesday’s reports, page 9 of the state reports show that 17 of yesterday’s 33 Sumter cases were within The Villages. One in Marion County was in TV, and none in Lake. I write down the three TV numbers each day to make the day-to-day comparisons, or use TV-News article numbers.

The recent 157-case jump in TV exceeded the counties’ new cases those two days, so I’m assuming there was a “test data dump” from a lab in TV. There was a huge statewide data dump several months ago from one lab that spiked the total FL numbers by several thousand cases one day.

Does anyone plan to do anything differently based on these new numbers??

No really ! Not sure what more there is to do ? I can't make myself disinfect my mail and spray all groceries with Lysol because my formal education is not medical, but, my college level science lab experiences tell me this is NOT the way this is spread, but, I don't know any more than the rest, including our so called "disease experts". Other than those things, and wearing gloves as well as a mask all the time... I don't know what else I personally can do, and most people seem to take what precautions they can ! Should we STOP swimming ? How can it spread in chlorinated water ? Who knows ? Now in L.A. you can't eat indoors OR outdoors ! Yet, doubt that will do any good, someday we "may" find out how this really spreads, all guessing. Like the black death of the middle ages.... thought to ONLY come on the evening breezes and the solution was to stuff openings under the door at night only so it could not enter. Sort of like restaurants and bars closing at 8 p.m. since the virus can only infect people after 8 p.m., or only infect people at a table 5 feet away, but a table 6 feet is safe ? I think one day people will read about all this and laugh when they find out the REAL was it is spread ! ?

I for one appreciate living in a State where there is no government nanny telling me what I can or can't do. Open up the States and using their common sense and personal risk tolerance, let the people decide what risk they want to take.

"Chicken Little is right" ! Just what we need, more of the chicken little types, what in the world has this virus done to the MINDS of other wise sane people ! Of course we should always be aware of our precious liberty and our fragile constitution of our unique democratic republic being chipped away a word at a time.... THAT is the real threat here, China and other rival nations could even be aware of that ? There's a thought ?

If you are reading information from that other website you are falling for their clickbait. Do a Google search for "Florida covid dashboard" and look at the website from arcgis.com. The data is broken down in great detail. Sumter county and the zip codes associated with The Villages are doing very well as compared to the rest of the state. Yes, there are positive cases, this has become just a fact of life these days, but one needs to look at things like the number of tests performed, positivity rate, death rate, etc. to get the entire picture. I'm not saying that there isn't a problem or concern with covid19 and that we all should not be being cautions and not take risks, it just not as bad as that other site wants to make it sound. Be cautions, take what precautions you feel you need for yourself, there is a risk and it is real, but the sky is not falling.

I studied journalism for 4 years and one of the topics we regularly discussed in every class was journalistic integrity (pretty much a non-existent concept these days), bias, sensationalism, and of course yellow journalism (Yellow journalism - Wikipedia). This was 40 years ago and most of this discussion was referring to the supermarket tabloids of the day like the National Enquirer and the like. The tabloids have moved from the printed page.

Today of course, we have the internet, and everything is fair game, you can say what you want and twist facts or pseudo facts to reflect whatever opinion you want. In this case, if you "hate The Villages", "hate the developer", "hate Donald Trump", want to hear how anything can be turned negative against the afore mentioned, or are maybe just a bored and miserable person, that other site may be the one for you. If your a fan of that site, I'd also recommend the website Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division - dihydrogen monoxide info .

Ah, there is hope, someone who actually does the research, tells the truth (especially about the profound changes in journalism and schools of journalism at many universities), and still has the ability to read past the "click bait" headlines... I do the same ! Old research and analysis skills don't just magically disappear, along with brain cells, at retirement ! Nice to read intelligent posts from time to time.

At our age, and with the unknowns of this (I believe) biological warfare that has been released on the world by China.....I would much rather DIE living than to live dying. It is NOT the number of days you remain, but those that count and make your time here special while on this big, blue marble that are important.

Man's inhumanity to man.........will continue unabated in TV Land for the near future. Nationwide, the mortality rate per positive cases is between 1.5 and 2 %. It would take people in TV Land to be falling dead like the "leaves in the trees" before the stubborn TV Landers would lower their "individual freedom" standards. We have been the victims of a great CON-JOB and the propaganda of non-compliance with Medical Health standards for mask-wearing and staying away from people. We are potentially TOAST. And the "white horse of vaccine" riding in to save everyone has not yet even been saddled up! Live long and prosper - the US stock market apparently liked someone and some (?) magic bullet yesterday.

Rates are up...deaths declining-not increasing....

We have remained conservatively careful for 9 months. We will continue to do so waiting for the vaccine.
We are hoping by next summer this will all be a bad memory!!

Deaths nationwide are approaching 2% of positive cases. I believe that is an increase. TV Land has somehow (?) avoided this increase. Considering the older demographics - it is impressive - I hope it holds!

I was interested to see if the gathering last month for the president would increase the cases. It doesn't appear to have done so. There have been seven deaths from Covid in Sumter County since that event.

I am quarantining until I receive the vaccine like many, many people. I choose science over any kind of public advice in a situation like this. I wish that the chief executive would have listened to ME. ;)

Anyway. Here are today's figures. I think it was 85 deaths when Mr. Trump came here to The Villages.

Sumter County cases
Updated Nov 25 at 11:44 AM local
Confirmed
3,341
+33 new cases.
Deaths
92

How long have YOU all heard is the incubation period. I think it is five to fourteen days?

Advice and attitudes similar have lead to the US being about 5% of the world's population, but having 19% of the deaths. North Dakota having one of the highest mortality rates in the world. We have bought into a CON-JOB!

Good observation. And we have seen no spike as other outside activities have resumed.

The likelyhood of getting infected outdoors is very low. Fresh air and the wind rapidly dilutes the virus to low levels.

The general guideline is it take at least 15 min exposure at some minimum viral innoculum level.

This is why the highest risk is interior spaces with recirculating air allowing the virus to build to continuously infectious levels. And why it spiked when cold air drove people inside.

We're lucky being able to be outside and keep our windows open.

The doctors in Sweden are fed up. They are not being listened to. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go on strike and tell the government decision makers: “You go ahead and take care of the Covid patients yourselves.”

reminds me of the Woody Allen movie where medical experts finally find out greasy cheeseburgers are good for you.

If COVID is a hoax, then something else must be killing all those people in North Dakota. And also, ALL the hospitals in the country must be LYING about their OVERWHELMED problems. It must take a HUGE CONSPIRACY to fake all those hospital reports. Not to mention ALL the patients that I see with hoses in their throats. They must ALL be actors. And ALL those nurses crying and complaining that I SEE on my TV. Am I hallucinating?????

donassaid 11-25-2020 02:58 PM

Really? 84% of those who have tested positive wore a mask most of the time if not all the time. I'll take my chances being part of the 16% who are not breathing in their own carbon dioxide and destroying their own immune system. But keep on drinking the koolaid and wearing your mask everywhere. That is certainly your option. Just quit referring to those of us with common sense who don't wear one as ignorant and selfish.
