Default Village Names

Recently I read a book called "The Paris Wife" about Ernest Hemingway's first wife, Hadley Hemingway. I wondered if that was the origin of those two villages names. I googled around and found:

Pennecamp - John Pennekamp (correct spelling) was a Miami newspaper editor who was largely responsible for saving the Everglades.

Obviously, I have too much time on my hands. LOL

...Do NOT know about Village Names...
But Do know about a couple of Street Names...

Example:

..... "O'Dell" Circle......Named for Jack O'Dell.... who used to own the Ranch where the Street meanders..

......"Bailey" Trail........Named for Clyde Bailey....who used to own the Ranch where the street meanders..

BOTH of their families still live in the AREA........ALL VERY nice people.

On the HISTORIC Side ....you have the names ( first and last ) of the Developers' families.

Of course we all know why MORSE Blvd is Morse Blvd.

The "La Reina" Bldg on the Square in Spanish Springs was named to honor Sharon Morse who was considered "The Queen" of the Morse family.

....Lots More......but will let others fill in the blanks.

Took the trolley tour awhile back and we were told Winniford was named after Arnie Palmer's wife Winnie. Just another trivia bit of news! :-) I think most of the villages and main streets as you say have something either to do with FL or the family.

Fernandina Beach is on Amelia Island which is at the Florida/Georgia line north of Jacksonville.

Bonifay is a city in the panhandle as well as Destin and Fort Walton which are the two Bonifay 9's that are open. I think the 3rd one will be Pensacola which is also up in the panhandle.

Parr Dr is named for Jennifer Parr, Gary Morse's daughter.

Everything has a meaning in The Villages.

Hadley represents surnames, first names and locations. I don't know what or who the village was named after. Probably only those that named it would know unless they did record it someplace.

I know that there was a Town of Hadley in the county where I came from, Saratoga Co. NY. Checking there it I found out that it was named after Hadley MA which was founded on 1659. Could that be the origin? Don't know, but I do know that the surname of Hadley can be traced back to England to at least 1086.

Maybe someone might know and let us know... maybe!

I wonder who the Village of Buttonwood is named after?
