Default Sprint Coverage

Does anyone have experience with the Sprint cell service in the Villages area? Considering trying Republic Wireless for a new cell phone where you use wifi when home and Sprint service when on the road. Cost is $25/month.

Normally Sprint is ok in large cities and along the Interstate. I have not heard anyone speak about Sprint in TV.

I have Sprint which worked GREAT in South Florida.

Here, the service is not good. Dropped calls, lousy connections, etc.
I hear they may be putting up new towers around the area.

Quite frankly, if service doesn't improve by July/August (when my contract expires) I will find another carrier.

Hate to switch because they were excellent BUT . . .

I've never had any problem with Sprint. I've had their service for three years now in TV and have traveled in the us extensively. I love it. The manager from the local service store leaves a lot to be desired but overall no other complaints. Their hotspot feature is not built into the rate but is great when there is no other available.

I'm with Virgin Mobile which uses Sprint. Coverage is OK in The Villages but can be spotty in rural areas. Then it's good to have roaming. Also Republic allows NO tethering if that's important.

We've had Sprint for 1-1/2 yrs. in TV and will change as soon as our contract expires. Multiple locations in TV where you can't get reception (Fiesta Bowl, Flippers are a few). Slow speed on Internet makes it difficult to search for anything quickly unless you're in a wifi location. Friends and I will "race" to get info with our smartphones, and the one with the Verizon service usually wins, with AT&T a close second. Previously had Verizon with no problems, and were unfortunately beguiled by Sprint's unlimited package.

Keep in mind that signal inside a building (like Fiesta Bowl) may be a function of the building construction rather than the carrier signal.

I have Sprint and I have dropped calls daily and am really fed up. I have really enjoyed them back in Michigan but here in TV it is horrible!!!!! I would like to get out of my contract if possible with no penalty since they cannot provide a good service even though their coverage map says TV is well covered.

Friends with Verizon have no problems - but their calling plans are certainly not comparable and are more costly - so really torn.

Does anyone know if Verizon would pay the penalty for breaking my contract if I move to them???

I use SmartTalk from Wal-Mart hooked to Verizon rather than Sprint. I think my old plan under Verizon was slightly better, but given SmartTalk's $45/month for unlimited everything vs. Verizon's $95+ with limited amount of phone calls is worth the occasional dropped call.

At present, I believe Sprint uses AT&T's towers in TV. I haven't heard of any Sprint towers here (but that doesn't mean they don't exist and, if they do, would love to know about them and where).

My Sprint phone does not work anywhere near our home in the Village of Charlotte. It can be really frustrating! When we were there in November, I had to call AAA and my calls were dropped eight times. I finally was able to get through on my Mom's TracFone. Thankfully, we were at the rental villa and not stuck somewhere on the road.

I've had Sprint for about 15 years and have seen improvements in their service over the years. I really can't say that I 've had a problem with Sprint since we moved here in November.

I wonder if some of the problems others are having could be their particular phone???

I have had Sprint for the last three years without much of a problem, until last week. We had terrible service, calls going directly to voicemail and messages not going through (in or out). Only one bar on the phone. I called and they ran a test and determined it was on their end. They reset the something in the system and I got 4 bars back and everything was good. Good service.
