What are the pros and cons of having your washer dryer in the garage or in the house?

I was thinking of having it in the house but then thought of putting it in the garage so I could use the space for my computer or sewing room.

Does anyone know if it's an option in the designer homes? or do we have to have it in the house????

With the washer/dryer in the house you can hear when the 'signal' sounds telling you the cycle is completed. Having the units in the garage may make it difficult to hear the 'signal', so you have to keep checking to see if completed or not.

There are a lot of homes with the units in the garage but my preference is inside the house. The model we previously lived in had the laundry next to the master bedroom. And since most of the laundry ends up in the bedroom, this was really convenient. And to me, 'convenience is the name of the game'.

It's just a matter of personal preference.

Our laundry room up north is off our bedroom and like you said, it's the most convenient place to have it. I wish it was possible to have it that way in TV but our main bedroom will be at the other end of our wash room or garage.

Don't believe you have the choice in any designer to have it in the garage. I guess you could move it there later but the cost for pipes/drainage etc wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

I prefer it in the house. We have the Jasmine II model and it is across from our bedroom. I just didn't like going out to the garage to get the laundry. It was a Cottage Home and just not enough space.

My w/d are in the garage & have been for 10 yrs. I prefer them where they are....not inconvienient at all. The utility rm which is off our master bath has given us an extra rm for storage etc and that rm leads to the garage so very easy access to the laundry.

The laundry in the garage means having to do that laundry in the awful heat of the garage, doesn't it? No way I was going to do that.

Also I'm thinking that having the laundry in the garage can lead to mold in the washing machine in time.

Garage is awfully hot and somewhat dusty. My laundry room (Bougainvillea) is my entry from the garage to the kitchen, and is next to the master bedroom. Completely convenient.

Don't like having to go out in the garage to do laundry when it's so hot in the summer.

Don't you have a kitchen timer? Try to keep track of a few loads as to how long they take, add 5 minutes and you are good to go.

Ours is in the garage and I like it there. Just do the laundry first thing in the morning or in the evening. It takes like, what, 2 minutes to throw it in the machine and take it out? I know exactly how long it is going to take to do the load (it tells me) so I know when to go out and spend 2 minutes putting it in the dryer. Never heard about mold in the machine...does anyone have mold in their machine?

Exactly. I'll also add that I like to have the extra space in the garage for all the junk I brought from up north and will probably never use again. Anybody need some show shovels?

Edit.....I hung a line in the garage so we can hang stuff up to dry. In the summer it probably only takes 3 hours to dry a load in the garage. Also a great place to hang pool towels.

Hanging a line in the garage is a fabulous idea. I will ask Hubby about doing this! Thanks for the idea!

Did you really bring snow shovels? I should talk...I brought a mantis rotor tiller.

No,I didn't really bring snow shovels but I did bring a lot of stuff that I don't need but couldn't part with just yet.

With the line in the garage, I also added a couple of support lines a few feet apart so it wouldn't sag too much. those pool towels can get pretty heavy.

Even though I may go to the pools more than once per day I only use one towel per day. Get home and through it over a lanai chair. Dry in no time with the constant breeze.

But I'll bring it in the garage during January so it doesn't freeze
