Has anyone seen any stats on the number of homes that are owner occupied (i.e., fulltimers) vs Owners that rent out their homes?

I doubt if that stat would ever be published. The developer would probably not want it known for various reasons.

A pretty good way to find out is call the Sumter county tax office and ask them. Most full time residents have the Homestead Exemption.

It would have to be broken down into three categories as we own, we DO NOT have full time residency but we DO NOT rent out our home either as we pay for a home watch service for the time we aren't here.

Good point about owners that are not full-timers, and do not rent out their place.

My opinion is that about 70-75 percent of TV residents are fulltime. This is based on my area (36 cottage homes) which I keep track of, and numbers I have read from two rather large clubs that attempt to keep track of this.

That's a pretty good estimate of full time residents. There is a data file available from the Sumter property appraiser, although it's about 6 months old. Here are the percentage of homestead residences by CDD at that time:
1-74.4% 2-79.3% 3-76.8% 5-72.0% 6-72.6% 7-70.6% 8-60.2% 9-10.3% 10-NONE |

Also, I would guess that full time residents join clubs than frequently than part-timers. A house near me is never occupied by the owner and is normally empty, obviously no club memberships would come from that house. Just my 2 cents' worth. |
