Default Stay Well Out There

Like the desk sergeant used to forewarn his cops going out on their shift on the old, popular TV series, “Hill Street Blues” ….”Stay safe out there.”

Maybe stay well might be more apropos here in The Villages, particularly if you get sick and need hospitalization. We haven’t heard sirens or helicopters arriving at The Villages Regional Hospital for almost two weeks now. A close friend came back from a doctor’s appointment yesterday with the report that both hospitals in Tavares are closed to any new patients.

Tavares is the Lake County seat and the hospitals there are the next closest to The Villages. Other than the information that none of the hospitals anywhere near The Villages are doing elective surgeries and procedures, no reports on whether they’re even accepting new patients. And of course there’s not even a mention of COVID topics in The Villages Daily Sun. If anyone has current information in whether any of the hospitals in Ocala or other nearby hospitals are open to ER or other new patients, feel free to let us know.

But I guess it bears repeating… Stay well out there! It looks like we’re all pretty much on our own for awhile.

I am glad most of us are vaccinated. I think that means most of us probably won't die if we catch the Delta Variant.

We went to our activities at rec center three times last week. No one wearing masks. Do we risk getting sick, even if we probably won't get REAL sick? If you do have to be hospitalized, no one that loves you can be with you. Sad and troubling times.

For now standing back and thinking and not going to rec centers.......... What are the rest of you doing?

Are the local hospitals turning away critical emergencies?
One would think that even if they are not accepting new patients they will still treat life threatening emergencies.

We both have our shots.
We do Almost everything after getting vaccinated.
We mask up when going anywhere indoors......actually we never discontinued our pre Delta masking routine.

It continues to be very disappointing and at times disturbing that
this pandemic has become distorted due to local, state and federal bias.

Why do people who choose not to get vaccinated go to the hospital when they get sick?
It’s literally filled with people they don’t trust

That is a great philosophy and I agree with it. However, this was on the subject of whether to risk getting the "mild case" or not. I do think that even if fully vaccinated we can get sick from the Delta Variant. I guess my question, my question to myself is....How sick IS the mild case? I don't like to catch a cold. It puts a hitch in my little plans to feel nice and no one likes to give a cold to someone else................

So. Do you think that living your life without fear is going to up your odds for catching the Delta Variant? It is VERY contagious and I already know of several Villagers who have caught it by being at rec centers.

So put aside the government. It looks like folks from both sides are catching this bug, even if they are vaccinated. How sick are they? Do you or I want to risk catching something that we can avoid????

The hospitals are closed to elective inpatient and non time critical surgeries. In about a month this surge will fall off quickly. The problem is immigrants from South America both legal and illegal keep bringing in new Covid variants. Even the Washington Post has called the border policies a disaster. Many illegals want to stay in southern states like Texas and Florida so they are given $1000 and a one way bus ticket. Then they undercut the wages of Americans with low wage jobs or go on welfare.

I'll do what I feel is correct and if you don't agree you'll still never know if the person beside you has the vaccine or not. If you don't wipe down every package, letter and contents you can still get the virus...same for your fruit and grocery packaging. And while there might be a few that go to these extremes they are by no means a majority. Good luck.

I'll depend on the facts they can actually prove(and not a ballpark guess). Being a sheep is easy. Being independent and smart takes a bit more work.

pray tell me how and I will easily cite situations that can pass on the virus you won't have considered. Any and all viruses can kill you under the right situations!

We are vaccinated and back to wearing masks inside stores. Annoying, of course, but better safe than sorry.

My wife and I caught the bug early this year. Symptoms very similar to the flu, which I get every year even with the flu shot. My doctor prescribed a lab test to verify for the virus, we did get it and the lab results showed it. It also showed positivity for antibodies. I respect everyone's opinions on the subject, but I am enjoying my life and will keep living it.

Why worry about what others are DOING. We are ultimately responsible for our own decisions.
