Default Why no credit unions in financial center

With all the big banks being built here, i thought for sure a credit union would be built in the financial center or perhaps close to colony plaza. I was the board of directors of a cu for 25 years, wasn't that smart-unpaid positioin-no one ever ran against me. Credit unions usually have lower loan rates and lower fees than banks. I belong to a large cu based in orlando that has an office in leesburg. they were going to buiuld a place in the villages before the economy slumped back in 2008..

You've sort of answered your own question, RM. I belong to a credit union, also, have for over 40 years, but if they don't feel the area will make it worth the expense of setting up shop, well. If I remember correctly, there was a credit union near Walmart on 466, but it wasn't there for long. Personally, I'd love to see NFCU set up shop in the area, but with so many banking online, making instant deposits via their computer, the need isn't as great for a brick and mortar facility.

There is at least one, maybe even a second, in the shopping center where Best Buy is located. Insight Credit Union. I realize that it is a distance from Colony, but maybe someone knows of another.

What is the advantage to the Villages? The CU's are member owned and the profits are returned to the members in the form of lower fees. Other than rent on office space, I don't money in it for the powers that be.

I have belonged to many credit unions over the past several decades. Here, I do all my business with Citizens First. They may not be a credit union but they operate like one. No fees, interest on checking and savings accounts, free ATMs and great customer service. They are as good as any credit union I have dealt with previously.

Credit unions should be made to pay federal income taxes.

Credit unions return their profits to their owners/members. they have unpaid board members and especially when credit unions are company sponsored, when slowdowns or strikes occur, they reduce loan payments for their members. banks have spent a lot of money on lobbyist trying to get congress to pass a law to tax credit unions but it goes no place because credit union members are loyal and let their politicians know.

Citizens is not the only bank around. Now granted, they have made doing business with them quite convenient. But that comes with a price, terrible cd and savings rates. You pay for the convenience and popcorn!

Can't really give you insight as to why there aren't any CU's around.
I worked for a large FCU on Long Island and found the members were always treated better than at the banks. Not only concerning rates, but just in general service.

More Credit Unions please !

There are all kinds of things that I remember about mortgate rates. Sweetie would shop for them in earlier homes. Some would have low percentages and high closing costs and you could get lower rates if you were willing to take the chances on long term flexible. We have always been CAREFUL with money.

Citizens is a small bank. We don't have a loan but we put our piggy bank in there.
