We are getting our garage floor epoxied next week and we have a small lanai (10x12). I was wondering if anyone has epoxied their lanai floor, and if so, would you recommend it over tile?

If there is tile down now that you do not want, the choice is yours regarding new tile or epoxy. Either way, the old tile will have to be removed and the floor will have to be power sanded to remove the bonding agent for those old tiles. If putting down epoxy it will have to be etched with muriatic acid to prep the concrete before the epoxy can go down.

If you are going to use epoxy I highly recommend getting it from here: Garage Floor Paint | Epoxy Coating | Epoxy Paint | Color Chips. Much better than anything you can get from HD or Lowes.

I'd choose epoxy. It's quite durable and no grout.
I was quoted $1,000+ for a tile job, I did the epoxy myself in an hour buying one gallon.

I'm quite pleased with the result and if I ever need a touch up, it's easy.

If you have to take tile out in order to put the epoxy down I would hire someone. It's bull work and you would have to get rid of the tiles. If you're putting it down over concrete then yes, you can do it yourself.

One alternative to tile, is using one of the driveway finishers to stencil their porch and lanai. Almost all my neighbors have done it that way, some even did it themselves by just criss-crossing painter's tape. Some go with designs, some just have it speckled and then a border added. It could look like this;

Depending on what type of tile? Tile can be very slick when wet.

Epoxy can be very slippery when wet even with EXTRA "sharkbite" thrown in it. I would think in a lanai where the condensation on a cold damp day could be worse it could be even more slippery. Other than that it's great. We have it in garage with 3x the normal sharkbite and it's still somewhat slippery when wet.

Tile is a pain - hard to replace if it cracks, slippery, and grout gets discolored in the traffic areas over time and can also crumble. I am going to epoxy - they can make a sand finish if you dont want it to be slippery and you can clean by mopping and have a design made on it if you want.

I went with the epoxy. Edison Concreations did a stenciled look as if bluestone slate was laid down. So far after three years it's holding up fine and looks good.

Exception floors that already have a coating in them. Some lanai’s are just cement and some the builder put a finish on them. You cannot epoxy over that finish. I believe it has to be taken off first. We had Edison look at it, I can’t remember if he said it would have to be sanded first or what they had to do but you can’t put one finish over the other. So far, we haven’t done anything as we go back and forth with floor finishes.

Woody Foster epoxied my lanai and I would do it again. I thought about tile but was afraid of it being slippery when wet or damp. I also put a decorative rug down and can change it anytime I want to.
