Duh, where to spend that money on willy nilly purchases that we are not in need of when we are locked down?

If your in that category good for you! I know very few. We have 3 categories here The Rich, the not so rich & the just getting by. I think you'd be amazed at how many people living in TV that are still working. Some because they're bored, some because they need play money, & then those that must to make ends meet. There are people here that go to the food pantry & the used clothing places because they have to. Most moved here from wherever to avoid the high taxes, utilities, fuel expenses etc. If it's a Husband & Wife household maybe both are getting SSI maybe some are only getting one. So yes this stimulus check is very much appreciated. As for mine it's going to be used for items we put off or can't do anymore and hiring someone to do what needs to be done hence putting someone to work that isn't working or is not in the big bucks bracket. Those of you who are in the Big Bucks brackets good for you. I can assure you there are MANY here that are not and these checks will be spent for sure!

I like your use of the word "mensch".

When is this promised “portal” going to be available so people whose direct deposit information is not on file can provide the information?

It is available now. Go to IRS.gov, and click on "get my payment". Although, the site is somewhat crowded.

I think the stimulus check should be for $7999, but not because that is how much a refurbished Batman pinball machine costs.

Give my check to a young family that needs the help. As retirees living in The Villages, if this check is necessary to buy groceries or pay bills then maybe you haven’t prepared for retirement as well as you should

That's a helluva bold statement. You are clueless as to people's history. You don't know who put 5 or 6 kids through college or had a parent that required costly attention. Or maybe themselves had a costly medical issue.

I really don't understand how some people who don't know squat can be so judgmental.

And by the way if you are giving your stimulus to others, just DO IT but don't come on here and brag about it. Too self-serving.

I remember comments on one of the first stimulus threads here where people were saying nobody on social security should receive a check since they were getting by before and "nothing's changed"

Welp, grocery prices are going up for one thing.

Grocery prices increasing significantly on certain items during pandemic :: WRAL.com

Heck, if this thing goes on for 18 months as some predict, your hand sanitizer bill alone could be $1200.

I'm giving mine to my daughter who just got "furloughed" after working for the same mega corp for 20 years. What it really means is that it's a convenient time for them to shed employees who are at the top of their pay scale.
