Any facts on how often the community pools are check for bacteria and other containments? Anything posted by the District of the historical levels? Just wondering how clean they are?

Any public pool with 5 or more units must be treated and maintained according to Florida Health Code regulations.

As for records or history, you would likely need to contact, Sumter, Marion and Lake County Health Departments for records on inspections etc. The county inspection must be done 2 times per year.

We were at Big Cypress last month and it was So Gross we didn't get in it.

Very cloudy and lots of stuff floating in it.

It sure doesn’t sound like someone is doing their job keeping it clean. But then some private pools around here are run down too. A pool might as well be a glorified bathtub. It is beyond me why a person would put one in.

Pretty sad, but more than "sad" will be the serious illness of an unfortunate resident or residents. Anyone still able to remember when the Villages was small enough (only went to the boundary of LSL) that no matter what day or time you went to your neighborhood pool, you were bound to observe an employee pull up, scoop up a water sample, and do a ph/chlorine/bacteria test ? I have not seen that happen for years now; must be doing that at every pool daily at night now.

Two pools close to our house, I’ve seen rec staff testing water most days - the days I don’t see them, they could come at another time.

Laguna Woods in Southern Cal had pool closures almost weekly due to someone losing their bowels in the pool. Pools closed for at least a day or two. 6 pools total there compared to the multiples here.

I visit the Orange Blossom CC pool, and observe this every time I go: people show up and slather themselves down (or worse - spray themselves down) with suntan lotion or sunblock or other "sun preparation product" - and then immediately go into the pool.

If you want to know why the water is cloudy, you need look no further than those people who do that.

Warm water will always make the water cloudier, but I'd guess that the main source is oils and lotions from people who think "spray and dip" will demonstrate how we are the friendliest town.

The posted rule is shower before entering pool. I have only seen a few people do that. I don't even use sunscreen and will rinse off before AND often after being in the pool. People look at me like I'm crazy.

If you have to wear a bandaid, you should not be going into a pool or lake or ocean, etc
