Default New Roofs

I drove by the street adjacent to my Villa complex. Three houses close to one another are getting new roofs. The houses are either Designer or Cottage homes that were built in 2013/2014. What are the chances these three houses have bad roofs? My house insurance renews in six weeks and I'm concerned.

You should be concerned, the roof scam thing is out of control and having a huge impact on homeowners insurance premiums. DeSantis is forming a commission to investigate this and hopefully bring it under control.

The recent and latest POA bulletin has an in depth explanation for how these scam artists managed to do this in Florida. It does look as though home owners will end up footing the bill for this roofing scam.

We had a 25 yr architectural roof, but our insurance company threatened to drop us unless we put on a new roof. They actually gave us 2 months to get a new roof. We went with Bowles, they did an excellent job and the cost was acceptable.

The roof scam will impact your premium. Plus, the appreciation value could as well.

I keep missing something. Why would an insurance company pay for a new roof if it isn't needed? It's not like they write a check without an inspection and determination. And they are in business to be profitable, not charitable.

When the roof on my house is worn to the point of needing to be replaced, I WILL PAY FOR IT. This fraud is hurting all of us.

Unfortunately, the insurance company does not let your roof get to that point, it is age not wear.

Default They Win

So It's a win win situation for the gypsy roofing companies that started this mess. They ran their scam for 3 or 4 years and replaced roofs needlessly at exaggerated prices.
Now the insurance companies are forcing their customers to replace their roof because of age not condition.
Now the prices are inflated because of lack of supply.

The defective product could not stand up to FL heat.
Tar like substance could be observed oozing down valleys.
Defect time varied depending on color of shingles. Most failed in 3-7 year time period.

This roofing scam is affecting even those of us with metal roofs. I saw a $1,000 increase Jan 2022. Even thou it's the shingle roofs that the scam affects, insurance is making everyone pay for it.

It’s going to be higher , how much and if they will insure the roof depends on what insurance company you have.

Have you been watching news? Roofing scams been going on for over year. We are all going to pay more.

Bottom line there no free lunch, somebody paying for it.

In my village Pine Hills people have been getting their roofs replaced because of a faulty valley membrane. The material melts and runs into the gutter or on the fascia. Homes built in 2016 or there about. My roof doesn’t have that component
