Default Street Name Signs by New Walmart

We were playing Sarasota the other day and noticed that the street name signs by the new Walmart have been installed. The names are all in upper case (capital) letters. I was of the opinion that federal guidelines (law) mandated upper and lower case lettering.

This kind of discussion gives us old people a very bad reputation.

We must find something else to talk about.

So very glad my roof is on so far. Thank you God and the roofers employed by the Morses.

There. Talk about that for awhile.

Would you please check the federal law and get back to us?

FWIW, the Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) does require upper and lower case letters on street signs.

Sign lettering is normally uppercase letters except various sections of the Manual on Uniform Traffic that destination names may be in lowercase lettering-with initial uppercase.

Only if it is a destination, like would be seen on an Interstate/Freeway/Turnpike.

But have to add - I think they would look better in cursive.

I just wish they would position the street signs and street lights where you could read them at night. Finding an unfamiliar street at night is a challenge.

Not the subject but it appears we dodged a hurricane---this time.

Nope. From the MUTCD...

"Q: Can lettering on Street Name signs still be displayed in all upper-case letters?
A: No, lettering for place names and destinations on all guide signs, including Street Name signs, shall be in mixed-case lettering with the first letter in upper-case followed by lower-case letters."

Yet again, does it really matter?

As long as they aren't in Cyrillic, they seem to work fine
