Default Personal Weather Stations (PWS)

I recently became interested in weather and "personal weather stations." There is an older CLOSED THREAD here: Personal Weather Stations

There are some "pseudo-professional" types listed on (where else!) Amazon for around $120 that have received very high praise from some of the specialized weather forums. This is an example of one of the highly reviewed PWS system I have been looking at in case you're not familiar with them: Amazon.com: Ambient Weather WS-2902 10-in-1 Wi-Fi Professional Weather Station with Internet Monitoring, Compatible with Alexa: Home & Kitchen There are of course systems costing in the thou$and$ but this is one is generally considered as a top rated system.

There are quite a number of them on rooftops all around T.V. that I have seen. All these units require a roof mounted "data gatherer" for temperature, wind, rain etc etc etc.

My primary question is are these "legally" allowed to be roof mounted around here?

Citing satellite dishes on roofs is different due to Federal regulations specifically overriding any local prohibitions that may disallow them but I assume that doesn't apply to PWS AFAIK.

I have read that ANY roof mounted items is prohibited here. They don't fight sat dishes dishes due to above federal regs but what about these PWSs? Is it just the usual "if no one complains it's OK but if they do you are SOL" type of situations?

There are quite a few personal weather stations in The Villages on the Wunderground Charlotte Weather | Personal Weather Station: KFLWILDW30 by Wunderground.com | Weather Underground weather network. Can't tell if any of them are on the roof.

I doubt there are any laws against roof mounted weather stations but your deed restrictions might restrict them. The restrictions vary throughout The Villages so you will have to check the restrictions for your house You can look them up on line at districtgov.org site Village Community Development Districts

The Wunderground ones are all roof mounted AFAIK. The general restrictions on the Villages is that NOTHING can be put on the roof anywhere even Sat dishes but Fed law says those are exempt and that overrides any deed restrictions. I was wondering if there had been any problems with PWS.

There are no general restrictions in The Villages. Each building unit has restrictions in the deed for the houses in that unit.

Our deed restriction specifically prohibits antennas where that restriction is allowed by law. So could, if we wanted to, put an TV antenna on our roof but probably would not be able to a microwave antenna up.

The are no other restrictions about other things that might be put on a roof in our deed. We have lightning points on our roof and they are allowed in our deed.

The older parts of The Villages have very little in the way of restrictions, the newer seem to have more restrictions. That's why you have to check the deed restrictions for your building unit.

@DAN9871 You are correct. What all of them I looked at state: "Aerials, satellite reception dishes, and ANTENNAS OF ANY KIND are prohibited within the subdivision to the extent allowed by law" (yes, I am fully aware of the federal regulations regarding TV reception antennas and AMATEUR/HAM RADIO ANTENNAS which directly affected me up north). "The location OF ANY APPROVED DEVICE will be previously approved by the developer in writing."

This can be taken a couple ways regarding satellite dishes:
#1) Satellite dishes are OK but the location must be first "approved by the developer."
#2) Satellite dishes are OK so just stick 'em up

With regard to MY SPECIFIC INQUIRY (a personal weather station) only ANTENNAS seem to be excluded and I don't think they can consider it an antenna and since it is NOT EXCLUDED it should be OK. No?

By the way, this language quoted above was in the "basic part" of the deed restriction form on every one I looked at, including mine, in random districts but of course I didn't check them all.
