Wink Has anyone used artificial turf in doggie area?

I am considering artificial turf in a small area behind my Bungalow Villa for my dog. I'm curious about how to install it, maintenance and generally how it would hold up over time.

Training my dog is a separate issue

I have the turf that is sold at the square on market night. I had it installed by the men selling it. I have two Yorkies, each weighing under 8 lbs, and I believe that it is too hard on their feet.

We had steps of our rv covered in turf, and the dogs would not go in or out.

We put in Pet Turf from Southwest Greens in our backyard in Raleigh a few years before we moved to TV. Wish we had done it sooner, very easy to pickup and keep clean, our Bassett Hound went on it daily. If we had a Villa in TV I would do it again.

Interesting replies, thanks. I'm wondering now if there is a big difference in texture in different brands. I did look at the type that Pooters sells at Sumter Market Night, and it did not feel too rough. My dog is larger -- 35 lbs -- so maybe that is a factor.

We have artificial turf in both our home in Canada and in TV. Our two dogs,a shi tzu and a morkie use it every day and don't have any hesitation. The turf we got in TV was purchased after much research. We got a length that is like the edge around the green so not overly short. The turf in Canada came with our condo and is a bit longer though not too long. I think it is worth spending enough to get a good quality turf as it will be easier to keep clean. I also got an enzyme eating cleaner that I spray on it and it keeps the turf clean and healthy.
The turf feels soft and has a bit of a spring to it. I think the turf in Canada is Astro Turf. In TV we used Alternascapes whch is out of Ocala. Hope this helps.

I work for the parent company of Southwest Greens, Shaw Industries.

There is definitely differences in quality and "feel" depending on the fiber type, fiber height and cross-sectional shape.

Southwest Greens works with professional golfers (including Jack Nicklaus) to produce putting greens as close to the real thing as possible.

While this might be overkill for puppy grass, it shows their dedication to the product.
