I recently played golf off campus at one of the area golf courses. It was early am with a shotgun start due to the large number of people in two different groups. Ninety women in one group and twenty men and women in the other group.

Prior to the start, one of our gentlemen (the term is used very loosely here) went to use the facilities and found a lineup of women standing waiting at the men's door. Our guy (the aforementioned gentleman, again, term is used very loosely here) went to the door, pointed to the "MEN's sign, and proceeded through the door oblivious to the line of women waiting in line. His argument, much to the chagrin and chastisement of the women standing in line, was its the MEN's restroom not the women's. Aren't the women offended when the men use their facilities?

The question is, is this guy a hero activist for men's rights, or a misogynistic cad?

I don't think he's either a hero activist for men's rights, or a misogynistic cad, but I do think he is correct. It is the men's room.

Not sure it would be appropriate to call a man a misogynist for using the men's restroom. In the past it may have been commendable to let the ladies use the men's RR, however today possibly not. I was pushed and berated for holding a door open for a woman entering the bank.
IMO he may have been boorish in the execvution, however I see nothing wrong with his expectation that the men's room is for men. Did we get the pronouns of the individuals waiting in line? That could make this go in a totally different direction.

Aw, c’mon, this is nothing new.

When women outnumber men — in a large group of people — and the restroom break-time is limited, this can happen. The men’s restroom is always a whole lot faster and if no one is in there, it is fair game.

A couple of times, at conferences, when the men’s restroom was empty and the line to the women’s room was ridiculous, I have led the charge myself…….

BUT, in the circumstance described above, I would have smiled my very best smile at the guy and said, “Hold on a minute. Let me clear the stalls, and then you can go in next.”

That would have been the fair and mannerly and common sense thing to do.

But in this day and age, would that have taken the wind out of his sails?

Or would he rather have continued to rant and rave?

Btw, I doubt those women were “chagrined” because they were embarrassed to be in that line. But they were probably worried he might shoot them…..

Absolutely. It would be foolish for the women not to use the Men's room if it was available but it's only reasonable that a man should get preference at the Men's room door.

Do these rooms have multiple stalls? If not, then perhaps the Men's and Women's signs should be replaced by a simple Restroom sign.

If the numbers had been reversed (lots of men and few women) and the men commandeered the women's restroom, how (I wonder) would the ladies feel about being expected to wait their turn behind all the men?

The guy did the right thing nothing to be embarrassed going to the head of the line.

Men taking over the ladies room blood would flow.

Did the ladies in the mens room leave the seat up?
