The original post is confusing, but I think they meant he's living with his significant other, whose family wants him out.

I agree. And, the family probably wants to sell the house, which the man cannot afford to buy. But, $500 per month is not nearly enough money to be seeking housing.

Florida has homestead rules. A person cannot be thrown out of their home. Read the law and see if it applies.

That sounds right. In other words, family may be of the significant other who owns Villages' home and the man is a live-in boyfriend or something like that with few if any legal rights. And he has a pooch.

I wouldn't need to read the rules. If the man doesn't own the house and cannot afford to pay rent, then he should move out. Otherwise, he is a squatter, for which we need stronger rules, not weaker ones.

My post was for the OP. I have no idea of his situation, married or not. I simply recommended that he read the homestead rules and see if it applies to him.

Sorry, but I assume he is not married because the OP said his "significant other" died. My post was for squatters who look for legal loopholes to occupy property that they don't own.

Let me fill in the pieces, his significant others family are executors and want him out.

His dog is a wonderful labra-doodle that loves everyone and other pets.

$500 is for rent only, remainder of ss will allow him to live.

They lived together 20 plus years, so sad.

I hope you get some nice private messages from people who might be able to help out. I have found the Villagers I have actually met for the most part good people. Some bad ones but they usually give some hints as to their true character.

I had a friend who allowed a woman to move into his house. She took care of him for years while he was sick. When he died, his son came to The Villages and threw her out immediately and sold the house. He wouldn't even give her a friendship ring that she had given to him. You need to put something in writing.

We looked at at home for sale that was same situation. She dies, daughter gave male partner of 8 years 30 days to move once estate was settled. He had a sister that lived in TV, but apparently that wasn’t on the table.

So happens more than you think.
