Default Solar Tube sky lights

Me and the wife are thinking about getting a solar tube installed in our Kitchen to brighten it up. All we know so far is the stuff on the info packet we picked up at Marion Market.
Are they any good?
What about leaks? It always concerns me when you punch holes in your roof!

Thanks, Army Guy

We installed 3 in our house - laundry room, 2nd bath and kitchen. They do a GREAT job of lighting the room up. Especially the windowless bath and laundry. When we first put them in we kept reaching for the lightswitch to shut the light on the way out of the room.
We've had no problems with leaks.

Thumbs up

I can only comment on Solatube, which is the brand installed by The Solar Guys on 441.

In 1998 when building our house in Wisconsin I wanted more light but didn't want the traditional skylights. I came across an article in a home magazine about a new type of skylight called Solatube. I did some research, got some info, gave it all to my builder and said I want these. He had never seen such a thing and thought I was nuts. He became a believer after he installed them in our house.

I had one put in our home in Duval when we moved to TV, and tomorrow the installer from The Solar Guys is coming to install one in our house in Bonita.

There are several brands available now, but Solatube was the first. You may want to check out their website. http://www.solatube.com/homeowner/

I certainly recommend them. And now if The Solar Guys want to give me a few bucks off my bill tomorrow for the wonderful recommendation, that would be good!

Solar guys put 4 in my house. In the kitchen, dining room, 2nd bath and the roman shower. I am constantly turning off lights and wondering why it won't get dark in the rooms. I'm thinking of adding another in the master closet. The only negative is I have to keep those rooms cleaner now cause you can't hide the dirt in the shadows anymore.

I'll weigh in with a vote for the Solarguys also. There was an existing solar tube in the kitchen of our house when we purchased it. We have since added one in the laundry room and my chief of staff is on my case to have another added in our living room. Guess I will be doing that one of these days. No problems with leaks, just a problem with dirt - you can see it better now!

A bit of a hijack...

But AG, as you know, we added solar fans to our attic above the garage. They have made a huge difference in the temp in there - esp. during the afternoon/evening sun. The garage remains consistent with the outdoor ambient temp.

Work was also done by the solar guys who were on time and professional.

Kate, morning! Yes, wife and I have talked about that also. They put the lead door in yesterday with the Palm Tree in it, you all will have to check it out!

Good to hear that! I really felt bad about it. Even told wife if it didn't come out we would get you some new ones.
