We just finished our first visit to the Villages. We had a great time and will definitely move there when retired (soon). We survived our visit to Kattie Bell's in fact I didn't get asked to dance once. :dontknow: We saw really great show when we were there. There are some really good values on both new and pre-owned homes, just wish we could purchase now.
For us the Villages is the only place for retirement hands down. Just wish someone had told me I could not use the golf driving range or play golf without a collared shirt. Luckily I had a couple and was able to purchase on in Lake Sumtner Landing for really cheap money. We are going back for two weeks in August. We want to see what it is like at that time of year. Would love to meet up with other Villages if you are going to be there at that time (Aug 2 - Aug 16). |

Glad to hear that. We finished our week last week and the feeling is mutual. Just a matter of time. I only got out for a round once but I enjoyed the course (Havana) very much and had a decent day scoring wise despite two doubles (81). I look forward to playing the other 30+ courses.

Russ, We had so much fun playing golf that we didn't even score the holes. I agree with you about can't wait to play all the coarses. But I understand the time for me to play is after 5 PM.
We must have been in TV about the same time. We were there from April 24 to May 4. |

Weather was not that bad. It only rained a little on Monday afternoon. The rest of the time we were able to go to the pool and any thing else we wanted outside.

We went to TV last August also to see what the heat was like at that time of year. We're from NJ and didn't find the heat and humidity any worse than it is in NJ during the summer. If it got too hot, we went back to the house for a while and hung out on the lanai or in the air conditioned house. To us the heat in the summer is no different than the cold in the winter when you need to stay in the house to keep warm. After being in TV in every season, we bought in December. We come down about every couple of months as our house in NJ hasn't sold yet. Good luck.

Our final decision of where to locate finally came down to this...
Is the cold in the winter in the mountains of North Carolina (our other retirement option) better or worse than the heat in the summer in central Florida? Which location would we feel a need to stay in the house more vs. feel uncomfortable outside? Right now, we're on the Florida panhandle coast along the Gulf of Mexico where the winters are mild but the summers, day and night, are hot and humid. We determined that winters, both night and day in NC would often be unpleasantly cold. On the other hand, while the central Florida days are hot, the inland location cools down somewhat at night to fairly pleasant levels, unlike along the Gulf coast where the nights stay very warm. We'll be permanant residents by July...look us up.

I agree. I'm from the Jersey shore(now living in Tennessee) and when I would tell people that the summers in Florida are like the summers in Jersey, They would look at me as if I had two heads. We just got back from visiting the Villages and put our house up "FOR SALE". We will be there as soon as it sells!!! Frank

Frank, we're inland from the shore in Central Jersey and it does get hot. Good luck with the sale of your house and we'll see you in TV. It's the best.
