Default Clear coat on driveway?

Has anyone had their CYV driveway clear coated?
Are you happy with it?

why would you clearcoat your driveway? to protect it from the salt used to melt the snow?
Other than a trumped up reason a salesperson might give you does it really bother you if it looks like a ...er...driveway?

not criticizing or anything like that, just curious..

Oh boy. You're opening the big can of worms. A driveway looking like a......er.......driveway is socially unacceptable to many here.

Driveway coating discussion here is the only thing that garners as much discussion as the dog poop on other people's grass problem!

Seriously, coatings probably do help keep the concrete from getting porous and crumbly, and many folks get blackish stains from their queen palms above the driveway.

Many undies are still in a wad in several CYV neighborhoods where ARC approved one type of colored coating for all who want to do it. Various contractors have been hired, and if you don't use the same guy others do, some lives are forever altered, it seems! Bottom line with that is, it's not their property...it's yours!

Up North, (where I grew up) our driveways were fine. They held up fine and looked the same year after year.

Here, between the rust colored water stains around the downspouts and the dark (is it mildew?) splotches that are growing on the concrete, our brand new driveway is looking pretty ugly in large sections.

I had heard that some people here get a power wash, then have a sealer or 'clear coat' applied to eliminate this ugly stuff from settling in. Supposedly, you can't see the coating once it dries, so it doesn't change the appearance of the driveway, except to maybe be the color it would be if it were wet.

Thought I'd run it past the forum, to see if anybody has had experience with this or if I heard something bogus.

Does driveway painting require ARC approval? I have seen some real clashing colors lately.
