Default 2 Golf carts - no car

Does anyone have 2 carts and no car? We are contemplating selling our car and renting one when we want to take trips etc. it seems most people use their golf carts and having a car sitting in the garage takes up space and money. Any comments would be helpful. We are not there full time yet but hope to be there soon!

You can probably get along just fine without a car, but keep in mind that there many places nearby that you can't get to in a golf cart, and wouldn't be worth renting a car for.

It may be tempting to only have 2 carts, but there are many times when a car comes in very handy. Rainy days, transporting larger items which would not fit in a cart or wanting to drive to an end of The Villages that would take too long by golf cart. For example, we always drive to Nancy Lopez for dinner by car, from Buttonwood. Also if you needed to go somewhere off campus unexpectedly and could not rent a car, such as to a hospital (if you didn't want to go to ours) you'd want that car.

Great info, things I didn't think of, especially the hospital. Thanks

Wait until you get here to make this decision.

when my husband comes for three months at a time he will not have a car he will add task to a list and once a month rent a car..and if he needs to go the hospital due to hear,t fall, or severe bleeding...its going to be in an ambulance..so we will be test driving the cart only...just our plan

Having lived here for a number of years I'd also agree that you will need your car now and then. In theory your idea sounds good but in reality you may regret it. We know of one such couple and they're always borrowing someone's car. NOW, that would be annoying on both sides after awhile.

Definitely wait until you move here and plan on spending half a year to one year with one golf cart and a small car. When it's cold, we go with a car. When it's pouring rain like yesterday, we went to our friends place with a car even if the house was eight houses from us. If you are a golfer, some of the cheaper golf ranges are not golf car access so need a car. Some of the churches, nurseries, and restaurants will not be golf cart access. If you are late for club functions, we take a car. So, wait a year before you make that decision.

Some times it's just too hot to take the cart.

I have one golf cart, and one car.

My cart is used 98% of the time here, rarely do I need to Take my car out. The flip side is when a car isn't used much the seals dry up and you get oil leaks.

I would recommend a car.
You may not want to drive a cart in thunderstorms,
high heat and even sometimes at night.
You will need to go to the airport and the mall
(Even if infrequently.)

And there are places just to far to go by cart.

I would want at least 1 car, especially in an emergency!

I totally agree with Yorio. Once you spend six months in TV, I think you'll find that you will use your car a lot more often than you'd think. There are so many places that aren't golf cart accessible .. like Bargains and Treasures, the consignment store close to CR466. We take our car daily to the private dog park which isn't golf cart accessible.

I love going everywhere in my golf cart. I don't even mind getting rained on. That being said, we do use our car. So many of the doctors are over on 441, which is far for us. There are some very good doctors that are not accessible by golf carts. I agree, wait till you are here before you do away with your car.

I am obviously doing something wrong because I am still utilizing two cars. both my wife and I find the golf cart to be cumbersome, uncomfortable and unsuitable for many reasons. Our golf cart is used for golfing only.
