Thanks, Barefoot. I do Facebook too but you have to use your real name on Facebook as far as I can tell and that comes with a lot of baggage even though I did pick up something nice in the load about a year ago around May 31, 2011.

This is just my opinion, not fact. But here is what I think. TOTV is a fabulous site for newbies. I found it to be the most helpful site imaginable when I first moved to The Villages. I found out everything I needed to know. And I met many wonderful people through TOTV. I regularly attended Crispers lunches. Members that are new to The Villages, or people who would like to move to TV, are always asking questions, and that is how it should be. The questions are often about topics that have been discussed, such as taxes, insurance, gas vs electic golf carts, landscaping companies, painters, floor plans, courtyard villas versus homes, where to buy furniture, etc, etc. All questions we once had. However a lot of people have had their questions answered, have now moved to The Villages, and are busy with Village activities. Facebook suits some people better, as more of a Chatroom to talk about their current activities, and play games.

I personally prefer TOTV over Facebook. I need a way to stay current with TV happenings as I'm Canadian, and therefore I'm not around for six months out of every year. I also enjoy the Political Forum and have learned a lot there. Fortunately, there are still a lot of "old timers" around, like Tal, pturner, Kathie, Redwitch and Gracie Girl, who share their wisdom with us and always have interesting things to say.

This is a topic hijack, sorry. BACK TO THE CRISPERS LUNCHEON. It's a great way to meet new friends.

I agree with what Bare said. Once you actually move here, you can get so busy with your activities that there aren't enough hours in the day to do everything.

For example, I'll miss the luncheon on Friday because I'm helping as the substitute librarian at the VAA meeting (Visual Arts Association). Unfortunately, the VAA meets the same day as the TOTV Crisper's Luncheon.

Barefoot - thanks for enlightening me on my question concerning why some TOTV have gone to Facebook. I understand the reasoning now; but I'm like you (at this point anyway), I think I prefer TOTV. I've only been here about 6 weeks and am still learning the ropes and I find TOTV to be very helpful and informative. Look forward to meeting you at Crispers sometime. I have met Gracie and Kathie and yes, they have been most helpful.

PS - I didn't think you hijacked the thread; you were merely responding to my question. Perhaps I am the one who hijacked the thread.

I finnaly made it to paradise after a 1 1/2 years. Rented a house in Caroline and planing on joining everyone at Crispers Friday. Unless my Realtor says otherwise. See you all there.

Some months there are large groups, and sometimes not so many. The TOTV Snowbirds have probably flown the coop. Swrinfla is usually there unless he is cruising.

As far as regulars go, don't forget that when we started the lunches back in 2007, there was no such thing as "regulars" ... we were ALL newbies.

So go and have fun, you'll meet really nice people!

Who knows? We had a lively discussion, but it did seem strange that there were so few of us!
