Default "tip" bucket at Brownwood

Has anyone ever heard of the entertainers looking for "tips". The solo guy at Brownwood tonight (Wed) mentioned to feel free to drop tips in his bucket. I've never heard of this before

Next Uber is going to ask for tips... ugh.

Sorry.

Personally, if The Villages pays for the entertainment, then I wouldn't tip (and if I was The Villages, I would be upset and may never bring them back), but if they are freelancing, I may tip. Its like someone playing in the subway, if you like it, drop a dollar.

Tipping is a thing you give; no pressure, and if pressured, myself I would say 'Are you serious, Dude?'.

It's unusual to hear of a tip jar in the squares, but why not. The performers get paid by the stores, not TV, although the Entertainment Department hires them. They usually get paid much lower here than when playing in other venues in Central Florida. It is, however, a steady gig. So, I'd say if the entertainment was good, you enjoyed yourself, you requested a song and it was played, tipping doesn't hurt. Tip if you want, don't if not. It's a no harm, no foul kind of thing.

BTW, I've always given money to a band when requesting a song.

It's not about not being able to afford a tip.
When does it stop?

When I go to the town squares, I always take a wad of singles and "tip" people for just being themselves. I also tip people for not doing something bad. I feel good doing it.

Saw Beautiful Bobby Blackmon and the B3 Band at LSL and requested Hey Joe, which is not a dance tune but a listening one. He played about a seven minute version. He had a tip jar which I contributed to happily.

Here's Hey Joe at Brownwood:

I think it makes no difference if they have a tip jar or not. Give if you have a reason to, don't if you feel you don't want to.
I think I will be putting a tip jar on my golf cart. Just incase someone going by wants to tip me. I will even say thank you.

Yes tipping has gone over the top for a while now. When you go to dinner and all the waiter does is deliver the food and drinks. They feel you should give them 20% tip .
That is 20% of the bill for what? I very rarely get good service in the villages, never mind that the quality of food is at best mediocre. You have to ask for a refill of your drink etc.

Yes I tip. But only based on the service.

Watched the YouTube link and that's a band I will have to keep an eye out for. I love me some Hendrix! Of course, you really don't want to listen to the lyrics of that particular number as it's misogynistic as can be...

Most of Bobby Blackmon's music is bluesy. Some B.B. King, Wilson Pickett, maybe a little Buddy Guy. Hey Joe gives him and the band a chance to show off their musical talent.

wait staff get paid a very low hourly wage. They depend on tips.

In The Villages, your drinks are around $2.50 and meals around $15. This is CHEAP if you come from any metro area. The server still makes a very small wage and depends on your tip.

Average income of Villagers is around $95,000 in retirement benefits and investments.

Give 20 percent! The servers do not control the quality of the food. If you don't like the quality, go somewhere else, but tip the servers!
