My lawn seems to be ready for the "dance of the musrooms" from the movie Fantasia. Am I watering to much? Doing once a week at 45 minutes per zone. (lawn guy recommendation) Could the rain sensor not be working and we got a lot of rain and watered also? Any ideas? I also have Massey who sprays lawn for bugs and weeds. Shouldn't that also get the mushrooms?

Hey! Don't take my shrooms away! They really are fun to kick and, who knows, I may yet get a chance to play for a pro team as their place kicker. A girl can dream, right?
45 minutes per zone does seem to be a lot. I know in California where it was a lot hotter and way, way drier, it was 5 minutes per zone in the spring, 10 in the summer and 15 in the fall (when it was actually the hottest there). Even with that, we'd get mushrooms. Sometimes they just seem to find a spot and settle in. Doesn't seem to matter what you do or don't.

The fellow who worked on our irrigation system suggested--and set it up for--15 minutes for the stationary sprinklers and 30 minutes for the oscillating ones. We have five zones, with two of the latter and three of the former. Never had a mushroom, well, so far, anyway. I have no idea if our rain sensor works; the same fellow told me that many of them don't and suggested that, when we're there, we can turn the system off on our watering day if it is raining or if it had been raining just prior to the watering day. Hope this is helpful to you....

I was also told to not kick the mushrooms. This causes them to spread. If you want to get rid of them, use a small garden shovel/spade and dig them out by the roots.

I'm living here three years and never had a mushroom on my lawn. Haven't seen any on my block either.

I can't kick them? awwwwww Gee, I've been kicking mushrooms my entire life (and then digging out the stems). Some people just gotta take the fun out of everything.

Sorrry :dontknow: But don't you notice mushrooms growing around the mushrooms you kicked? I did and that is when I was told not to kick them. I thought it was a fun sport also!!

Well, yeah, but I always just thought it was something about that spot that shrooms liked. And you should be sorry! Spoiling one of the few free fun things to do and destroying my dreams of becoming a professional football place kicker (preferably for the Dolphins).

Just a warning about mushrooms and pets. My son (in Va) has a dog that had some sort of neurological problem due to eating a mushroom out of the yard. Don't know if it is the same kind growing here but it might pay to be careful if you have a pet. He was very ill but is all right now--after a night in the animal hospital and 700 plus dollars.
