I received a citation the other day for not coming to a complete stop at Cazaras and Enrique. I am the first to admit I did not come to a 100% stop after seeing nothing was coming. My car was still rolling forward. I took a right on Cazaras and up the road was a Sumter County officer setting up radar. When I got up to him he turned on his light and waved me over. He told me I did not come to a complete stop. I agreed with him and he gave me a ticket and said it was 166 bucks. I told him I hadnt had a ticket in 50 years. He said good that I could take that off my bucket list. Has anyone had a similar situation and did you go to court or mail in pyt. Thanks for your response

Do you mean you took a left off Cazaras onto Enrique? The SCALP does occasionally set off the side there by the powerlines.

I would also expect a reply from the Lt., with the results of your complaint.

The police always seem to have a smart comeback. I had never had a ticket either and told him so and he said "well you've got a fat one now lady". It taught me to think about what a jerk he was. This was 6 years ago and I still remember it.

I hate auto correct. Yeah, I agree. The smart Alex comment wasn't very professional

I have spoken to many people in my career as an insurance guy and heard comments replete with such smart alex remarks by cops. I posted in another thread that this sort of behavior caused me to lose respect for LOE. I have never once heard a person say that a cop while writing a ticket said something like "Gosh I am sorry for having to do this but......................

Seeing this is not the first time you run a stop sign in the past 50 years, just figure your paying a dollar for the last 166 times you didn't get caught and the cop is a really funny guy.

I have had a couple of tickets in my life and no cop was smart aleck to me and I wasn't smart aleck to them. If you roll through a stop sign, you get a ticket. This is the FIRST place I have ever lived that anyone would question a stop sign means stop.
I am not sympathetic. I also think that "I am sorry" compared with "whatdyamean I rolled through a stop sign?? Don't you guys have better things to do than arrest law abiding citizens??? Wazzamatta, you short on your quota today????" Each elicits a different response from an officer of the law. I am biased. I was raised in a cop's household and he was a good one and so were his buddies.

Gracie do you think the cop was correct telling him to take it off his bucket list or saying the snide remark he did to me? I was very polite to the police officer and did nothing to make him say that.

At lease the cop had a sense of humor, he could have been very by the book and tough.

I've always been very polite to any police officer under any circumstance. I think for every 10 police officers who conduct themselves professionally there is the 11th who shouldn't be wearing a badge. There are bad apples in every bushel of life.

Depending on how he said it I probably would have burst out laughing - I thought it was clever.

I got a speeding ticket years ago in Maryland. When he gave me the ticket he thanked me for my politeness. I went to court hoping that he would not show up. That is exactly what happened, so the charge was dismissed. I like to think that he remembered my politeness and that was why he did not appear in court. My ticket was the only one written by that officer that was on the court docket for that day.

I imagine they have a lot of people say they have never had a ticket. Being rude is not a good response from a police officer unless someone was being rude to them.no not even then.. I personally have never had a police officer anything be anything but nice. Maybe it's because I cry when I get a ticket. I don't want to, but I am SO embarrassed for screwing up.
