Default The on-line Villages news

If you take a look at the news article in the on-line Villages paper, you will see the headline of a car "plowed" through Lake Sumter Landing Square. It goes on further to tell of the "wild ride across the square".

Read about it in the Daily Sun and you see plainly that the car jumped the curb, hit a planter box by the curb and stopped. It appears from the photo that the car only went inches onto the sidewalk.

Where is the "wild ride across the square" and how does jumping the curb and coming to rest several inches on the sidewalk amount to "plowing through the square"?

Yes, some pedestrians might have been injured if this had happened a few hours later but the sensational story of a car driving wildly across the square is completely false!

Thanks for your post, I had a suspicion the article in that source was hyped up, seems like most of their articles are written for shock value, I may stop reading that online news. Thanks for the heads up. Bill

Are you basing your statement simply on looking at the picture, or did you speak to eyewitnesses who observed the incident in its entirety?

Based on the photo in the Daily Sun, you can plainly see that the car did not go more than several inches onto the sidewalk and did not "take a wild ride through the square" or "plow through the square".

Are you saying that the on-line description is accurate? Please take a look at the Daily Sun and then give your opinion.

Perhaps if you had read the entire article you might have noticed several factors that might suggest that the on line news account was more accurate than you want to believe:

The woman was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
District Property Management was at the square making repairs prior to the start of happy hour.

That doesn't sound to me as if the car jumped a curb and came to rest several inches away! Why would that result in a ticket and the need for repairs?

The Daily Sun picture clearly shows the the front of the car is at a stone wall. The only stone walls at LSL are would require the car to cross a sidewalk that is at least four feet wide. Additionally, the picture appears to be taken from within the square which would indicate a few more feet of travel. The headline of a "wild ride" may be exaggerated, but it was significantly more than a few inches.

It definitely appears to have traveled more than a few inches over the curb, but the car definitely didn't take a wild ride across the square as that article implies. I'm just thankful no one was hurt.

The online news is what it is. They need story clicks to survive, and "Car jumps curb" isn't exciting enough to go viral on facebook.
