Some are better than others. The Lords of 52nd Street, I thought, was just like being at a Billy Joel concert and the piano guy looked and sounded very close to the man himself. If I remember correctly, three of the guys were actually part of the band recording and touring with Billy Joel at some time. Well worth the $35 for this tribute band.

I also try to catch Beatlmaniacs when possible... The audience is sometimes more fun than the band!

Not "hating". Just stating preference one way or the other. Personally, I often prefer to listen to a variation of a song rather than the original. Example: the Hendrix version of All along the watchtower.

There are so many tribute bands performing it is crazy. Something about it bothers me. My husband and I love live music and have seen a few of these groups. A few is enough for me.

Maybe dislike would be a better word then hating which there's enough of that in the world.

Not sure the purpose of this post, but if you don’t like them, then don’t go to them!

Tribute bands
QUOTE=Michael G.;2069062]I hate tribute performance's when people sing and mimic past entertainers either as a group or single.
You know who they are by knowing their passing years ago. Yes, I realize the great ones are gone, and let them lye in piece. Being older and hearing the original recordings all my life and attending expensive live performances by the pretenders just don't cut with me. I guess as a kid, I attended to many great original concerts from the great ones. Your Thoughts Please[/QUOTE] If you don’t like tribute bands, then don’t go |

Some of the shows we have seen have been just as good and nice to hear the songs we loved in person

I've had to sit through a "tribute" here it was so sad. I wanted to leave but didn't want to embarrass anyone (musicians respect). What is worse is when people are charged good money to see the debacle

I enjoy a good tribute band. Expectations are important. I do not expect the tribute band to be as good as the original. Just as I would not expect 2022 Rolling Stones to be as good as 1967 Rolling Stones.
It is good to hear the music played live, with other people, in the style of the original. |
