If you haven't visited yet, do yourself a favor and drive down. Allow plenty of time. It is truly wonderful and amazing. It is far more than a rec center.
Call me schmaltzy, but some of the photos brought tears to my eyes. Whomever masterminded and organized this complete work of art is a genius. I look forward to going back since I couldn't take it all in. It made me proud to be a tiny part of this miracle called The Villages. ![]() |

Talk it up. I still can't get over what these eyes saw when I visited this past march. I was pretty much set on another place in Ocala. My GPS screwed up badly and a set of circumstances led me to The Villages. I was dead dog tired, living on junk food for 3 days and my head spinning with information when I got really goofed up very late at night. Anyway I end up at a Holiday Inn about 11pm, thank God they had a room at the Inn. I'm traveling alone mind you, my co-pilot Ms. Priscilla was at home holding down the fort in NJ. When I left the hotel the next morning I was putting my bag in the car and I heard a rhythmic noise...turns out I got lost into The Villages and that noise was pickleball. I spent about 7 hours on a freelance tour and knew I found something very special. I cancelled all my other appointment further south in the Tampa area. Did this happen by mistake? I don't think so. Once all the stars align we'll be on our way. Can't wait.

And we all welcome you and Ms. Priscilla. It's even better than you imagined after those 7 hours.

Agree!
The Rohan is fabulous! The entire history of The Villages is laid out for you to see in the framed photos, newspaper articles, aerial maps etc that cover each wall. We especially loved the mural on the ceiling as you enter, along with the resident murals that are spotlighted in each room. So much love, work and history went into this rec center. They indeed, saved the best for last! |

Be sure to look for the family photos in a little alcove outside one of the rooms. There's a photo of a baby and his mom. It's none other than Mr. Schwartz. His mother's name...Katie Belle. Am I the only one who didn't know that?

Nice to see how everything has progressed in this generation. I was a little disappointed hoping to see pictures of how the villages progressed from Orange Blossom to present. The aerial views did give you an idea but some of them were difficult to read especially for older people. The renderings are very nice of all of the country clubs and rec centers. And I did love the collection of the villages phonebook. There still a lot more wall space .

I concur completely with all the comments. Rohan is a must see! Like Eisenhower you need to spend time looking at all the wall art and framed photos on the furniture. I'd love to see them stream a historical video of TV as well. AND hopefully John will look thru his old photos for pictures of himself going back thru all the jobs he's held.

We especially liked all the French Door murals in the meeting rooms, in particular that all were done by resident Villagers and we could read about them on the nice plaques next to their artwork. Lovely and thoughtful touch. Agree with the person who said they saved the best for last.
