Car prices will go up very soon, including used car prices. Mexico just stopped sending car parts to the US (because of the tariffs). Parts we can NOT get very soon from somewhere else. Car rental companies have already said they rates WILL go up.

Have you investigated having your car shipped back and forth ?

We shipped several cars by Amtrak Autotrain from Sanford to Lorton, Va if this would work for you, price was around $500 for car and driver. Also, look at the classified ads, there are several cars for sale, and there are several online local sites that have cars for sale.

I did this several years ago. I enjoyed the trip.

Price wise get away from TV. Most used TV cars are higher priced since most of them are low mileage garage kept vehicles.
