Is it best to have a corner lot or can one build a pool in an interior lot?
If you don't mind sharing can anyone tell me the app. cost of a pool with birdcage? We are trying to come up with a budget and have never built or owned a pool. |

check with your agent on setback requirements. Not sure if most interior CYV lots have enough room for a pool. The spec ones I have seen TV build always seem to be on corner lots in CYV neighborhoods.

It's possible to have a pool!! We have friends who have a CYV and they had a pool put in when they built. They have a large pool deck with lovely tile and ALOT of room to enjoy sitting outside. Their CYV is not a corner one!! They built around 12 or 13 years ago so wouldn't be able to give an accurate cost.

Thank you for your replies. As you all know it is hard when you are out of state and you are thinking like crazy of what to do. so for that i thank you.
Any new CYV' ers with their ideas for their places? |

IF I could do anything different....we bought our house then went north for about 6 months or so. Did some shopping up there then came down and got some more things so we could live in the place. NOW...if I could do a re-wind I'd wait a bit before making decisions (on furniture etc). Not in the place where we can replace items. Soooo if you're up north and thinking "swimming pool" maybe you need to wait til you come down and get a feel for the "lay of the land"!!

With all the pools available and an opportunity to socialize with a whole bunch of others; why do you need a pool. Just another thing to take care of.

I can see where having your own pool would be nice for various reasons - shade could be provided for those who can't/shouldn't be in the sun, ability to take a dip after dusk, nice to have when family is visiting, great entertainment area - just looks cool and pretty.
For real swimming, easier to use TV's pools, and for cost, of course it doesn't make sense to have your own. I would think that if money is not an issue at all, go ahead and do what you want. Just plan for the maintenance/replacement issues and costs, as they are not minor. However, if you are at all concerned about your budget, or your finances 20 years from now, maybe think twice. I have met at least 2 people who wish they had smaller homes and/no pools - one originally bought a house (or built it, not sure which) with a summer kitchen and pool, and then sold and bought the same house one or 2 villages down without the pool and summer kitchen - said they never used it and saved about $100,000 - likely a smaller lot in the new one as well, plus the market was different when they downsized, a little softer. The other couple will likely downsize in the near future. I'm sure it works the other way around also - people who upsize and add these features. Know thyself I guess is the best advice (and know your financial resources). |

Ok, good advise so far. You are right, I don't want to move to TV and isolate myself, yet I would love the nightly swims.

I have a corner lot and have plenty of room. No one else around here has much room for a decent sized birdcage much less a pool. When we moved here last year I priced out a modest pool with birdcage and some extras and I think the estimate was $27K for what I wanted if my failing memory is correct.

I do not remember who it was because at that time we were getting estimates for many things. I was looking at one of those small personal pools. I have heard people who spend $60 to $100 thousand for a regular pool and birdcage.
After seeing my in-laws' monthly utility bill even with solar panels and the large crack lengthwise after only 5 years I decided that the local pool was fine. Most of our social plans are made at the pool. It is the best way to make good friends quickly. I am sure that if you did a search of this website you can get your answers. |
