Have any of you figured out how much it cost to move into your home in The Villages? I'm talking about all those expenses that come up when you take over a new home like deposits and installations, setting up service contracts, basic supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, trash cans, cleaning supplies), and things you left behind (like gardening equipment, etc).

I think I've put together a pretty good budget for my move including living and moving expenses but I know it's never that simple and there are always things that are needed to finish the move.

I'm assuming that my first day in my new home will cost me about one month's household expenses more than my normal expenses. Too much? Too little?

I think you need to double your estimate and add 50%, based on what we found. It always seems that you exceed the estimate by a long ways.

More than you think. MUCH more.

Remember you do NOT NEED landscaping, driveway painting, garage floor painting, downspouts in back, pull down stairs in garage or water softener.

You will want some of them, but they can wait or some really aren't needed...ever.

Don't forget Neerly New and Bargains and Treasures and Walmart for bargains...

We sold everything when we moved here and depending on the size of you house may make your expenses higher. If you have good credit no deposits will be required to set up all utilities which keeps the cost very low for hook up. Our monthly utilities to include lawn maintenance, cable, internet, home phone, cell phone, electricity, newspaper, water, sewer amenity fee, bond, trail fee for golf, sanitation and property tax $950.00 per month. New golf cart was $11,200. Smaller the house less furniture you will need we spent $38,000 on furniture and accessories plus another $45,000 on improvements on a new house.

Holy cow! Yes, it depends on your taste and budget. Set up my new villa in 2007 for 18,000 (included nice preowned golf cart). Included EVERYTHING from deposits, to furniture. No upgrades it was a rental!
