Default Unale to Get On Talkofthevillages

Anyone else have trouble getting on TV? Whenever I tried from Saturday to last night (Tuesday), the screen would go to ww2.talkofthevillages.com and remain a blank screen or go to discover.com.

Thank goodness it cleared up but just curious if anyone else had that problem? Thanks.

Lots of us. It seemed to be a phisher/spoofer on Prism CenturyLink. They might have gone after other Internet Service Providers as well. https://spoofer.caida.org/

I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.......Ran it.

I also downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware............Ran it.

This took care of it for me.

It could take four to six hours to run.

I have been having this problem for 2 weeks and can't get rid of it. I have tried clearning cookies/caches, deleting browsing history, deleting the link to talkofthevillages and running a security scan. Nothing works. I keep getting diverted to ww2.talkofthevillages which takes me to "goodmayor". I called our internet provider and they told me it must be coming from an advertisement on talkofthevillages. He spent an hour on the phone with me trying to help. Our provider is At&T Uverse...so it is not just Century Link and Comcast that are having this problem.

Many people have been experiencing the same problem. Seem the best answer is to contact the staff at TOTV. They can be reached at the bottom of the TOTV main page. Seem's like the guru there will be the person to fix you up. Take Care and good luck.

Same here on both laptops. It installed a malware and infected my computers. I got the paid version of Malware bytes and now I have protection from incoming threats. I also ran the free copy on Superantispyware to do the cleanup.

There are people complaining on Facebook that they too are blocked from TOTV.

I had this problem twice about a month ago and each time lasted several days but went away for no rhyme or reason....but I did restore my computer to an earlier time.

I think something not good is going on by some hacker.

Please allow me to reply to this hack-virus-issue by shouting:

TOTV AND/OR CENTURYLINK OWES ALL THE AFFECTED USERS A DETAILED EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT HAPPENED, WHY (IF KNOWN), AND WHAT TO DO IF THIS RE-OCCURS.

Apparently a large ToTV user base was directly affected, some impacting their PCs with costs to clean or check their equipment. Rather than no communications, it would be professional for either or both suppliers to alert their customer base and clear the air.

I think the answer to what to do is get a quality virus protection software and keep it updated and run full scans weekly. I found that when I do get a virus, running Trend Micro (my anti-virus) cleans the virus and the problem goes away. I'm not sure that TOTV and I's certain the the cable providers do the best they can to screen but the ultimate responsibility for our stuff is us.

I have anti-virus protection and I think most of us do. Still had the problem.

I totally agree. The problem was fixed by Centurylink and/or TOV. I sure would like to know what happened. I spent a fair amount of time trying to fix a problem that they fixed. I sure would like to know what happened so I know what to look for if there is a "next time"

From other threads, it appears it is not just CenturyLink subscribers that are/were infected.

I have a Mac and two days ago an Apple chat person helped me "fix" it. Lasted one day. Then I called Apple Help and I needed an "update" to entire laptop-- took couple of hours. But each time it was when I went to Talk of Villages. Not only was I denied access-- I got warnings a third party was on my Mac and one time it froze. I had to get on by using Google Chrome. I agree-- if this is something on Talk of the Villages-- they should fix it-- and let us know it was fixed. After reading all this, I won't be visiting so often.
