![]() ![]() We were always used to being the young couple on the block but one day we woke up and realized we had magically transformed into the old couple on the block. Suddenly our neighbors were young enough to be our children. Climbing the stairs in our home was not so easy anymore. The sound of kids playing in front of our home all day became annoying. Talking to people who were not even born when the events you are describing took place made you feel your age. We started to feel old and had nothing in common with those in our neighborhood which was mostly made up of young upper middle class couples with young children. The only solution was to go where we were the young ones again and that is why we are moving to the Villages. Not really. We want to be with people who believe that TV was once in Black and White, there were two world wars and men once walked on the moon. Seriously though, as a married couple who are a few year older than the minimum age in The Villages who are semi-retired, what can we expect? I keep telling my wife that she will once again be the hot young chick on the block. ![]() |

Vinny.... you will probably have neighbors from 50 to 75+, with the majority being around 60-62... that seems to be the 'normal' demographics for a new neighborhood. You will quickly find age is a state of mind down here. Some couch potato 50 yr olds as well as 80 year olds who can run circles around you. As Gracie often points out, you will enjoy being surrounded by people your own age.
I was at a birthday party the other day (for a 50 yr old, no less) and we played a music trivia game....questions about music from 50s, 60s, and 70s. Just about every group got every question right. Had the quiz been about Usher, Foo Fighters, or Black-eyed Peas music, I doubt any of us would have gotten even close to half of them correct. Fear not, cmon down.... the next chapter is ready to begin.

I agree that age is not important. I will turn 53 shortly and after 2 years of coming down to my house part time I am going to move to TV permanently in July. Can't wait- looking forward to being with my friends of all ages, enjoying many activities and starting "the second half of my life".

My wife and I have been visiting TV for more than a year now and will be residents in about 2 weeks. When we first visited and went to Spanish Springs for music and dancing we both realized that these people were just like us. We all have so many things in common. We remember when there were no cell phones, computers, tv remotes, etc. We are now in the 4th quarter of our life and are getting the most out of it.

When we moved here 8 years ago my wife was the baby of the whole neighborhood at only 43. It didn't matter to anyone, and still doesn't. Probably never will.

I plan to rent at 58 in Aug 11, and buy shortly thereafter.
My interests lean far less "old" than I am via biology (sorry, for the generality in this statement). I assume The Villages is large enough and worldly enough to accept such differences. I need the acceptance that comes with membership in TV. I am hopeful enough (and I believe it is!) that acceptance of the "new and different" is not unusual in TV. If it doesn't -- well, look me up and then it will! Welcome, my future neighbor! Gary |

As KathieI always points out, people just keep getting younger and younger here. Most of us are far younger than our years. You will fit right in. I am not sure what you mean by different, but if that means you are a Democrat, it's o.k. There are a few of those here too. If you are an intellectual we have close to a dozen here. They will tell you who they are. (JUST JOKING) That is what Muncle would have said. (Muncle was a dearly loved poster here who has recently passed on to the village of Heavenly) Last edited by graciegirl; 04-28-2010 at 06:32 AM. |
