The prison has a little over 10% of their positions open and are trying to fill them. What can Wildwood do! They are just using scare tactics to get something in return from the prison. When you were younger, when the company was short staffed we all pitch together to still get the job done until they could hire help. We maybe did not like it but we did not try to start a panic!

If those guards are union, I guarantee that this will NOT be happening. Doing so short-circuits the need for more workers and as unions live on dues and large memberships. Workers going above and beyond to help one another because of warm body shortages just isn't tolerated.

Unions did a good job improving work conditions but now it is getting the money from dues.

Worked in a union shop and was amazing how often work came to a standstill while you waited for a "specialist" when any other worker could have moved the material a few feet.

Agree on the specialist, but what kind of different trades/specialists are at a prison? Better ? is how much they are paid by the state of Florida. Florida has always been one of the lowest paying states in the US. Not going to get better. Recent influx of out of staters has made, FL a harder place to live for the working populace.

But isnt coleman a federal prison….i would think they are paid under the fed compensation system…i bet a lot better then state prison employees

Have met a couple of retired prison guards in the past few years. They all seem to have done well for themselves financially and retired in their early 50's.

The only significant risk is from the Camp section since they are allowed to roam freely at times according to the description. https://www.bop.gov/locations/instit...aohandbook.pdf These are usually people either near their release date or convicted of non violent crimes. The difference now is that there is much more development instead of pastures and farms surrounding the site.

The biggest risk is to the staff who will have less backup when inmates commit violent acts.

Well, if The Villages / UF nixes the medical research and educational center buyers are being sold on, they can switch the focus of Middleton from under 55 Dr's and Nurses to Correctional Officers to work at Coleman. Win win.

Perhaps Coleman could hire some of those thousands of unqualified people hired last year to be school teachers. The working conditions are similar to those in many Florida schools, and the pay might be better.

The latest rumor is that the convicts at FCC Coleman have, themselves, unionized. They have secretly planned a mass escape once the guard staffing level drops below 70%. Maps have been distributed amongst the convicts detailing the location of snowbird property in The Villages, which the convicts will use as shelter until they can disappear into the populace. This could well be in your village.
