Default Donate Food

I was sitting here tonight on computer with the TV on and something caught my attention on the news. Many people are going without food. The food banks need donations. Just a thought, but what if everyone on Talk of The Villages donated a few cans of food to a local food bank. We could make a difference.

We're going to be donating lots of food items that we have in the cabinets to the local Rescue Mission as we prepare for our move to TV.

What a great idea. There are so many poor souls who must do with very little, and we are all so blessed and fortunate. I also like to donate pet food to food banks.

I'll do it. And, when we donate -- let's report back to encourage others. Can't hurt.

I just want to say I am so pleased that we've moved into a community that gives so much to others. Food is very important and a "needs category" that often gets overlooked because there's a perception that there are so many foodbanks out there. If you visit you'll see empty areas, poor quality of food, etc.
Maybe we could start a routine where any club or activity we attend, we bring a non-perishables to donate. Can we place a box at various places? I'm new to the area so don't know where the banks are...but we have a truck and would be more than willing to schlep food somewhere!
During Thanksgiving turkeys are usually REALLY cheap. Is there a place that takes donated turkeys?

Our women's club meets once a month and we have a box at the meeting where we collect non-perishable food donations for the Christian Food Pantry. We also encourage donating pet food - they have a pet food shelf there also.

Wonder if any of the food distribution organizations have contacted the restaurants in TV to arrange to pickup any left over food. Better than throwing it into the trash.
